Shorts Based Off of Disney Animated Classics?

I heard that they are making a new BOLT short to follow-up on the movie.

Have they done this before at Disney? I know that Pixar has always done it.

I heard Home on the Range has a short called "A Dairy Tale". What is that?

Are there more follow-up shorts? What are they?

Well the only film to have a short specifically created to go with the film for DVD release is Home on the Range, with "A Dairy Tale" which is a retelling of the 3 little pigs with the characters from Home on the Range.

However some other shorts from Disney history which were spin offs from the Disney features were:

"Stand By Me" featuring Timon and Pumbaa.

Following Pinocchio there was "Figaro and Cleo", although they were in a different modern setting.

There was "The Seven Wise Dwarfs" which was a wartime bonds saving short and "The Winged Scourge" both featuring the 7 dwarfs from Snow White.

"Casey Bats Again" was a short, the followed the events in Make Mine Music.

"Clown of the Jungle" featuring Donald and the Aracuan could for all intents and purposes be viewed as a spin off from "The Three Caballeros".

A follow up short the Flying Gauchito segment from The Three Caballeros was planned but never made titled "The Laughing Gauchito" Also a follow up short to the Pastoral symphony segment of Fantasia featuring Peter Pegasus also was never made, but see the Fantasia DVD for more on that.

In a manner of speaking "Winnie the Pooh and a day for Eeyore" was a follow up to the earlier Pooh featurettes/film. And the "Bongo" featurette/segment of Fun and Fancy Free was initially conceived as a sequel to Dumbo

They usually do this for Dreamworks animated films when they come out on DVD to give people one more reason to buy the DVD. They did it for Shrek 1&2, Sinbad etc.

Unlike my other liberal views on Disney films, this time I was looking for what was strictly an animated short 'sequel' type of film to the original movie ala Pixar. Something made around the same time with the sole purpose of being a follow-up. Not a short that has some of the characters in it.

I can't really explain it. Do you get what I mean?

Winnie the Pooh and a Day For Eeyore could count towards what you mean. I don't really think Winnie the Pooh has any sort of chronological order to it once Tigger and Kanga are added to the forest. After that it's just daily life, so like I said that short could count towards what your asking.

Anyways, I'm pretty sure Ichabod listed every possibility. Considering Disney himself (I believe) said he didn't want to do sequels to his films so it doesn't make sense for him to have made follow up shorts to films. The only sequels are the DTV's and Rescuers Down Under.

I know this isn't quite what you are looking for, but they made a few Roger Rabbit shorts after the movie came out...

I know at least one was released with one of the "Honey I ____ the Kids" movies.

Okay, you all helped me out! I do know Disney didn't want to make sequels. Don't forget about Fantasia 2000, that's another canon sequel.

Lasseter is supposedly now going to have every DAC from now on have a 'sequel' short.

Anyone know anything more about the one for BOLT...what it's called or anything?

True it is a canon sequel, however what I meant was Walt didn't want to do sequels to his films. Like he didn't want to make a Cindy 2 or Peter Pan 2. Those came (obviously) after he died and things changed.

However, Fantasia 2000 is an exception considering Walt did originally intend to make more of them I believe. I'll have to dig out my Fantasia book to find out the exact details.

I thought it was more that he would make new segments for Fantasia, and re-release it with the new segments (and some old ones dropped.)
