My first Disney movie theatrical experience was in 1973 (I was 5!) when I saw Robin Hood!

I can still remember going to the theater with my oldest sister and her boyfriend, waiting in line, seeing the movie, talking about it on the way home and then telling my mom all about it when I got home! It's still so vivid in my mind.

Since then I have seen every new theatrical release (except The Black Cauldron, which I had to wait until the VHS release to see), and most, if not all, of the theatrical re-releases.
I miss the re-releases. I guess I understand that in today's market they might not go over as well, but I do miss seeing those movies on the big screen!

Probably The Love Bug, but I grew up watching so many that it's impossible to say which one was first. Most likely it was something on the Wonderful World of Disney show which, for those of us born before the VHS revolution, was the only source of Disney films other than theatrical rereleases (which were EVENTS, let me tell you. We take for granted being able to watch, say, Snow White whenever we want, but back then you waited for a theatrical rerelease or for the movie to show up on the Disney show.)

OK, old fart mode is over. :)

Since I was born in '71, it was probably something along the lines of Robin Hood or The Aristocats. But I have distinct memories of watching (and loving) The Love Bug from a really early age.
The very existence of Dumbo is a fairly persuasive argument against agnosticism.

Not sure, but the first that I remember in theatres was The Little Mermaid. I was three then, though, so I'm sure I saw others before that and either don't remember, or have the orders mixed up.

From the ?Just Wondering?/ Disney storythread:
Loomis wrote:It's hard to say if I had a significant first Disney experience. I'm 24 these days (going on 84, or 4 depending on who you talk to) and all the memories are starting to fade into one...
I always had a fondness for Disney animation more than other types. When I was younger, I seem to remember watching a lot of Saturday afternoon Disney shows on TV, most of which were themed in some way ('Halloween' for example, or Christmas etc). I think I discovered a lot of the classics this way. The 'bridge' scene from Ichabod is always a stand-out memory, as is 'Bambi' trying to stay upright on the ice. I must've watched Sword in the Stone a million times (being an Arthur nut), and Fantasia was one of the first videos I owned. 'Night on Bald Mountain' still scares me...
I'm pretty sure it was 'Fantasia', which left such a lasting impression on me.

The first I saw was Beauty and the Beast, at the tender age of one and a half. I got a lecture when we bought the DVD last year about how my mother missed most of the movie because I would cry everytime the Beast was on(I was not even 2 yet, sue me). The first memory of my seeing a Disney film was watching the Rescuers Down Under on video when I was 3. McLeach scared me, so I didn't actually watch the whole thing until I was 5. And the first Disney theater memory was seeing the Lion King when I was 4. Oh, I remember all of the Lion King stuff I asked for after I saw this film. It is still my favorite Disney film to this day. And my earliest whole memory(everything before that seems blurry). This is sad. I'm blabbing on about my past soounding like I'm 88 and I'm only 14!
Cheers,

My first film was either Mickey's Magical World or Mickey and the Beanstalk. And Rescuers Down Under. I used to love that movie until one night we watched it at a reunion and my cousin-in-law, who at the time was 30 some years old to my 5, goes "Heeeeey, the iguana's named Joanna! Like you!!" and proceeded to follow me around all night making lizardy hissing noises. I haven't been able to enjoy that movie since. :( Stupid jerk.

I think the first one I saw on video was Snow White or Beauty and the Beast. My mom told me that I saw the premiere of aladdin, and i got so scared with jafar i covered my eyes throught the whole movie. Anyway, I don't remember that one on thaters, the one that's so implanted in my memory is Lion King. I can exactly rememberentering the theater when the circle of life number was just ending.
To all who come to this happy place, Welcome!!!

Hmm...this is a hard one. It was either: Alice in Wonderland, Pinocchio, or Robin Hood. This would've been when I was about 6 or 7. None of them in theatres.

We had this friend who owned some Disney movies on tape, and I vividly remember watching Alice in Wonderland projected (from a video) on a white wall in our house. That image is still so vivid in my memory, and I still love Alice for it.

Once my father brought home videos of Robin Hood, Lady and the Tramp, and Pinocchio home. I can't recall if Robin Hood or Pinocchio was the first one I watched. I know it wasn't Lady and the Tramp.

The first one I saw in THEATRES was probably One Hundred and One Dalmatians in the 1991 re-release.

The first Disney movie I ever saw was Cinderella, the very original very first vhs release of it.

Aladdin was the first Disney movie I saw in theaters and the first movie I saw in theaters. We saw it 5 or 4 times. When we went with our cousin, we snuck in gourmet popcorn under hers and my shirts    . Afterall, who would search innocent little children?

To change the topic a bit, the latest Disney movie I saw in theaters was The Kid (yeah, a long time ago...) and animated movie: Mulan (yeah, an even longer time ago, but now I can finally see it again with the new 2-disc release!!!!!!!!)

I think it was Dumbo or Alice in Wonderland. I think a lot of the so-called "mid range" stuff (which are actually some of the better ones in my opinion) were on video first in the late '80s early '90s so I remember seeing them first:

Alice in Wonderland
Dumbo
Pinocchio
Sleeping Beauty
Robin Hood
The Sword in the Stone

The first one I saw in a cinema was Cinderella in 1991.
