Good review Aaron, but I have just one question - Are the screencaps representative of the Blu-ray release? They don't match the framing on the aspect ratio, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Of all the Blu-Ray films out there that could have been "the one that started it all" for UDizzy's Blu reviews...The Love Guru?!?!

:P

Other than that little complaint (which isn't really a complaint but just a way to get a jab at the movie), it was a good read though I can safely say I will never ever click the "Buy from Amazon" link since I will never ever see this movie.

I look forward to future Blu reviews, especially Disney's Prince Caspian, I'd love to know more about the Circle-Vision feature.

Aaron, if you're interested I'd be willing to loan my copy of the Japanese release "The Art of Disney" Blu-ray for review. PM if you like.

Fantastic job on UD's first Blu-ray review, Aaron. I absolutely loved this line:
"Such a ridiculous premise hopefully means that you don't need to read any further to know that this movie is awful. But just in case you do -- this movie is awful."

Thanks, everyone! I appreciate that you read the review and commented on it.

Just Myself - At this time, I am unfortunately not able to take Blu-ray screencaps, so the images in the review of The Love Guru are from publicity stills.

Our second Blu-ray review is now up: Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, which is available on Tuesday.

Our Blu coverage will continue soon with the upcoming 007 releases:
*Dr. No
*Die Another Day
*Live and Let Die
*For Your Eyes Only
*From Russia with Love
*Thunderball

I thoroughly enjoyed the Sweeney Todd review, Aaron. No Sleeping Beauty or Wall-E Blu-Ray reviews? :( :P

It's still a little early for Wall-E... as for Sleeping Beauty, see Luke's note on that in the review:
Considering this title a worthy one with which to dip into the waters of high-def coverage, we did request a Blu-ray version for review, but all we could get from Disney was the standard DVD version, covered in detail below and beyond.

Blu-D

Post by Disney Duster »

Oh, thank you so much for finally covering Blu-ray!

I also want to say that with the way Disney was, and is, pushing Blu-ray, I can see that maybe the majority of the UD reviewers were upset not at Blu-ray itself but the way Disney was trying to make people upgrade to it.

I think Blu-ray should only be aimed at hardcore fans and collectors for now, and Disney should ease up. But then again, they're only releasing some movies on Blu-ray, and they're being nice by providing the DVD with the Blu-ray...it's just that the way they talk about it, they make it sound like you need to get into Blu-ray really soon.

As for Sleeping Beauty...is there ANY chance that...later...if one of you comes into possesion of the Blu-ray...you will review that, too?

And I would really LOVE to see the Art of Disney Blu-ray reviewed!

I have a copy of it on BD, but the problem is my Sony player doesn't have Profile 1.1, which is the firmware needed to view the visual commentary. Chances are I'll be getting a BD player for my bedroom for Christmas (and perhaps even a new computer with a BD drive), and when that happens, I'll finally be able to view the most substantial addition to the BD. I wouldn't mind reviewing the title at the end of the year, even if it'd be late. That's how UD started, anyway. Luke and I just reviewed Disney DVDs we had already owned for some time until eventually we caught up and started getting review copies from the studio.

And for those wondering what and when my first BD review is going to be, it looks like it's going to be Planet of the Apes at the beginning of next month. Only time will tell, though.

True!

I still remember your Bedknobs & Broomsticks review. It's what prompted me to buy the DVD on Amazon.

Hang on here!

So you, Disneykid, were Captain Hook!? And what about Jack Seiley?

Keep in mind that I started visiting UD long before I registered on the forum (which I never realised the site had until that fateful day on the 12th of March, 2006 ... man was I living on the moon!). Possibly even years before in 2003 or 2004 (aaargh! If only I'd noticed that link ... I'd be a UD vet by now! :P ) and I always noticed these "funny-named people" writing the reviews. So what's the story behind them?

Disneykid is Kelvin Cedeno, and he was part of the earliest UD review team (Luke and him). Jack Seiley and Captain Hook are former members who also were part of the early review team. As of 2004 (Captain Hook) and 2005 (Jack), neither are active members on UD or reviewing anymore.

I think only Captain Hook ever reviewed under his forum name. On occasion, MickeyMouseboy and MichaeLeah reviewed under both their forum names and their real names.
