heidi game nov 17 1968 40 years ago

Post by bradhig »

most of us were not around when this happened. 40 years ago last night NBC dropped a late running football game to start a children's movie Heidi on time and it caused an uproar and now they have to stay with games until they are finished. I feel this is what killed sunday night televsion what does everyone else think?

I don't really understand the whole "let's watch sports on TV nonstop" thing. I guess that from that situation America learned that they could protest
any little thing we didn't feel like watching rather than changing the channel.

UGGH, I absolutely HATE how football games are always running over my favorite shows!

There are so many dedicated sports channels now, I think they should totally remove sports from the major networks. Either that, or end the broadcasts on time, over or not. If the game's not over yet, viewers could switch to one of the sports channels to finish.

It's ludicrous. I've never understood why anybody wants to WATCH sports. Play them, maybe, but why is watching everyone else run around so enjoyable? Blech.

Jean Simmons mentioned that in an interview she did last year. Apparently her husband at the time Richard Brooks had some friends over to watch the game, when all of a sudden Heidi turned on. And she said that they didn't let her forget it for quite some time. lol

And for those of you who are wondering has the guru frickin' lost it. Hardly Jean Simmons portrayed Fräulein Rottenmeier in the film.

I think it's kind of funny that the little girl who played Heidi is Blake Edwards' daughter, thus Julie Andrews' step-daughter.
