Disney's Disc Replacement Program

Post by DisneyFreak5282 »

OK, they have been VERY helpful to me, and I appreciate them, but why are they able to replace OOP DVDs (I know, I know--marketing, money, but besides that)? I just got my BatB PE replaced (came w/ bonus CD-ROM, but no slipcover). So am I saying (hypothetically) that I could send in a damaged copy of a Limited Issue DVD and they'd still replace it? Can anyone help me with these questions?

EDIT: Also, is there a number I could call/e-mail address I could contact to order slipcovers? I live in the U.S., if that helps.

Just because something is back in the vault doesn't mean Disney doesn't keep a stock of replacement discs for it themselves... only that it's no longer sold retail. If you've already bought a DVD, even after it goes OOP, you're still entitled to a replacement disc if it gets damaged. Since you've already paid for it, and have to send in the damaged disc in order for Disney to ship you the replacement, it's not exactly the same as selling an OOP title.

I'm sure they could replace most, if not all, of the Limited Issues... but none of those were anamorphically enhanced, or had any bonus features to speak of, did they? What's the point of even bothering, most of the movies that came out as Limited Issue undoubtedly have better editions available now, or soon.

Plus, if you have any doubt of the legitimacy of a Limited Issue DVD you have - if you send it in to get it replaced and they deem it a bootleg, you won't get it back.

Nah, I wasn't saying I had any damaged Limited Issue DVDs, I have only 2 (Lady and the Tramp and 101 Dalmatians), and I have purchased them used, but I know for a fact that they are authentic. Also, I was just being hypothetical, just asking because the Limited Issues were released way back in 1999, and I was just seeing if they would be able to replace those (seeing as most of them have been OOP for almost 7 years).

Also, does anybody know of a phone number/email address where I can order slipcovers?

What also irks me is the fact that you have to pay $6.95 for a replacement. The first few times I did it, it was FREE. Do you need to register your DVD in order to get it replaced for free? I just thought of that.

I was just thinking about the replacement program, as I was registering the Disney dvds I got for Christmas (4 disc Narnia, Pirates 2, Hannah Montana Rock Star Life) It says that you have to send the discs back in with the box. Does this go for Platinum which have 2 discs ? What if the movie gets lost in the mail ? Then, you'd be without both discs. How could you prove the disc got lost in the mail ? You think that Disney would replace a movie (with slipcover possibly) that got lost ?
Think about this. Once bread becomes toast, you can't make it back into bread.

Disneyfreak, I've been thinking about sending my copy of BatB in for replacement (Disc one still works fine, but disc two glitches up alot. I haven't bothered yet because frankly I don't revisit disc two very often) and I was wondering if they just sent you back your old case with new discs in it, or do they send you a sealed copy? My insert from BatB was destroyed and I'd really like a replacement for it, but the only way I'd get that is if they send me a sealed copy. I'd consider sending it in for replacement if a new insert would be coming with it.

hey guys,
Ok, so this disc replacememt program... How do I contact them? How does it work? What if i never registered the dvd? Is there a cost?
Although, i'm very careful with my DVDs, my alice in wonderland for some reason stops at one point in the movie. Always the same point. And I;ve tried different players and computers, and the same thing happens. I dont want another case, or slipcover, and the second disc works perfectly. Do you think I can get this disc replaced?

Thanks guys

I actually just had this problem a couple of weeks ago. My Aladdin: Platinum Edition DVD wasn't working properly (it skipped heavily in some areas dispite being fairly new and well taken care of). I sent the movie back to Disc Replacement, but kept my slipcover knowing they probably wouldn't send me a new one, and I got my new replacement Aladdin: Platinum Edition DVD a couple weeks later (free of charge) and without a slip cover.

Hey Widdi,

They do send you a new, sealed copy of the DVD, so I would take advantage of their Disc Replacement Program if I were you.

Thanks for the info. I'll seriously look into this now.

Do you think the disc not being in their original case would make them deem my copy a bootleg? When the insert got ruined so did the original case, and I've since transfered the discs into different packaging (same style of case all PE's since BatB have been packaged in). I really don't want to risk losing the movie just for a new insert and non-glitchy disc two. It's way too hard to track down a copy outside of the internet.

What's on the bonus CD rom for BATB? I never knew they did one.

I've had Emperor's New Groove disc 2, Mary Poppins 2.0 (There are 3 releases now) and Dumbo 1.0 all stop playing or skipping in the same part no matter what the player was. They replaced New Groove but I never tried for the others. I bought another Dumbo 1.0 and interestingly the disc art was different. I wonder how many DVD's have the disc art change during pressing? I haven't bought the new Dumbo 2.0 yet.

Now, in cases where they've rereleased the title like Dumbo will they upgrade you or give you what you had?

Personally, I doubt they would deem it a bootleg just because it's not in its original case. Just make sure that you have the original jacket (the artwork that goes in between the plastic and the actual case), because it says you need its original artwork. Don't worry about the inserts, though. I've sent in some DVDs without the inserts and it's fine.

Hiya! Okay, my Halloweentown Double Feature cracked in the middle a few months ago, and I was about to throw it away until I thought of this program. I've looked up the official site, got the information, and the DVD is ready to go to the post office (tommorow :( ). But I had a few questions. Does registering your DVD make any difference, and how long does it normally take to recieve your DVD. I'm hoping to recieve it before Halloweentown 4 comes out. Thanks! :D

I really don't think it does. It just saves you a little time when filling out the report.

You'll definitley get your replacement before Return To Halloweentown comes to DVD in late August. For me, it usually takes about 10 - 12 days from when I mail my damaged DVD out to recieve a new one. If you want it even faster, send it out first class mail. I sent out my damaged copy of Snow White and it only cost me about $2.40 or so, and that DVD is really heavy (I cheated and took out the inserts lol), so the Halloweentown DVD shouldn't cost much at all to be shipped first class.

Great information. I was just wondering how long it would take to receive the replacement back. Not long at all.
