So it was with some hope that the DVD packaging for Wall-E might embrace some green packaging. After all, for a film that chastises society on waste, it would kind of make sense. Thankfully, that call has been answered — at least for the first 100,000 customers. In an odd decision, only that number will receive an eco-friendly package that contains no plastic; it’s made from 100 percent recyclable cardboard. The Blu-Ray version doesn’t incorporate the cardboard (why?), but is made from 30 percent smaller than the standard DVD package.

So if its only the first 100,000 there will probably be some normal cases in stock too. I'll believe it when I see it, but personally I hope its true.

Since my brother is a manager of Best Buy, I will tell all of you that if you expect a price break on WALL-E for Black Friday, you will be disappointed!!!

Disney has explicitly said that no prices will be cut for their new releases including Prince Caspian and WALL-E.

The sale prices are good for 5 days only at Best Buy and Circuit City, and that will be the best you will see through the holiday season.

Just thought I would warn you if you were planning on fighting the crowds the morning of Black Friday (day after Thanksgiving for those virgins who aren't familiar with the term).

uhm, I can't find it. Is it supposed to be on disc 2? I have the 2-disc Dutch dvd so maybe this feature is listed with a completely different name.

I also can't find it in the UD review. The third disc is just a digital copy of the film, right?

its on disc one.according to ud's review it runs for 50 secs. now i have another Q. whats the rationale explanation behind the dolby surround option. its not available on r3, neither is the pixar edition home theater setup.

I just got home from Wal-mart where I got the 3-disc DVD. Although I have to admit I like the way the case is constructed, i wish it were plastic or something. I feel like this packaging will break easily. As far as the probability of scratching the discs... honestly i think you have just as much of a threat in scratching the discs in the regular packaging than in this. That's just my two cents.

Also I noticed that the packaging for the latest edition of The Nightmare Before Christmas has been altered. Instead of the inset Jack head it's just flat, if that makes sense. That makes it a lot thinner and a bit more "normal" looking. Maybe after a period of time the packaging for this Wall-E release will change as well.

if anyone gets the DVD with the digital copy included and you download it onto a NON iPod MP3 player w/video capability (meaning not an iPod Nano or such), can you tell me what brand you used? I only have ever had one movie with a digital copy and it didn't sync to my Samsung MP3 Player with video (it was harry potter).


I haven't bought Wall*E yet, I am waiting to see what MP3 players the digital copy would work with.

If you have to have a DVD with a regular case and you don't want the paper case... you can wait for your local video store to sell a previously viewed copy. If you're that patient. Usually takes 6 weeks or so.

I picked up the single disc DVD for my cousin today and the case isn't too bad... it's the same size as Warner Bros. old cardboard DVD cases... and looks a lot nicer than the 3 disc DVD, which really is horrible on a lot of levels. I'm going to pick up the 2 disc Bluray later this week when my store gets them back in stock. I work at Best Buy and we were sold out of 2 and 3 disc Bluray by 3pm.

As for your question on the Dolby Digital option. It's called "WHY 2.0 ?" And it's a static screen with some WALL•E sounds that says "The default 2.0 audio setting has been mixed to maximize the sound through a traditional television set. To experience our preferred multi-channel theatrical mix through home theatre set-ups, please select our 5.1 option.

Is anybody else miffed that you only get 100 DMC points from the 3-Disc set? The price range would indicate 125. Grrr, that Donald in Mathmagic Land/Ducktales the Movie reward is going to have wait even longer now.

Also did anybody else notice the ad for Oliver & Company says it comes out Dec 16th? Did they change the date on us or is it a misprint?

I know you have all been holding your breath, waiting the curmudgeonly old man to chime in with his thoughts on all of the above posts, so here goes.

Why would anyone watch a movie on a MP3 player or iPOD?? This sounds totally stupid, and to me, sounds like a real waste of time and space.

All of my Digital Copies are on my PC and that is where they will stay because I have a 21" flat screen monitor and they look wonderful on it. Why would someone want to condense a 2:35.1 image widescreen movie down to a little 2" screen??

Now, as for the packaging of the three-disc, I find it just fine. So you have to be a little careful with it because it is stiff paperboard, but it is not going to scratch your DVD's, as long as you are careful. If you are worried about your DVD's getting scratched, why not have them in a binder or something like that? That makes more sense than just whining that you don't like the packaging. Let's face it, we have to start thinking 'green' before the whole country turns 'brown' from all the rot.

I agree with the complaint on only 100 points for the three disc set, it sounds like they don't care how much money you spend, as long as you spend it on Disney stuff. I have a jillion points accumulated, but because the things I want, you have to include a payment with a credit card for shipping and handling, I refuse to put any credit card number on the internet, no matter what anyone says it is not safe, and I refuse to do so. If that means I can't get some neat stuff from Disney Movie Club, then so be it.

I love the "Pixar Story" feature, it is really insightful into the whole Pixar family and some of the stuff they talk about and show are just downright hilarious. I think it is nice to have a look at the people responsible for some of my favorite movies of the past few years.

My Top Three Pixar movies right now, today, are: WALL-E, Cars, and Ratatouille. While I enjoy all the other Pixar movies, these three see the DVD player on a regular basis.

No, I feel the same, I think the point break down should have looked like this

Single disc DVD: 100 points
3 Disc DVD or 2 Disc Blu Ray: 125 points
3 Disc Blu Ray: 150 points

It's stupid that the 1 disc DVD and the 3 disc DVD give the same amount of points.

I'm just a little miffed myself at the 3-Disc DVD only being worth 100 points. For all the money you have to pay for it, you should at least get that extra 25.

I don't get the hate for digital copies.

There are plenty of perfectly good reasons to watch movies with a portable media player. We've got kids; when traveling, it's nice to have the option have letting them watch something on the way or at the destination, and with a little hardware to jack the iPod into the portable DVD player or TV we can eliminate the hassle of packing discs. Or: I had a long flight several weeks, and I was especially glad to have the iPod on when the cancellation of the second leg of my return left me sitting at DFW's airport an extra six hours.

And those are pedestrian, obvious circumstances. I probably still wouldn't own an iPod myself, but I inherited my sister's; she bought it to provide herself some entertainment at the hospital during the hours between doctor visits and chemo treatments. I don't think she ever complained about letterboxing on a 2.5" screen.

I've heard the same thing said about listening to music on lossy MP3 rips. I'm beginning to feel that way about films on DVD...
