Once Upon a Dream: The Making of Sleeping Beauty

Post by musicradio77 »

I found this 2-part video on YouTube is a documentary called "Once Upon a Dream: The Making of Sleeping Beauty" This special was originally taken from a 1997 VHS "Masterpiece" edition, but it is not included in the latest Platinum Edition DVD or Blu-Ray release.

The Platinum Edition release has an all-new documentary called "Picture Perfect: The Making of Sleeping Beauty" which is on disc 2 and it is a ton better than the original 1997 version. I do have the documentary on one of my "Sleeping Beauty" VHS tape from 1997 and it was narrated by the Brian Cummings, he is a voiceover guy for Disney where he does a lot of trailers and other stuff compared to Mark Elliot, a former radio DJ from KHJ out in Los Angeles back in the 1970's.

Thanks to YouTube member "videos4everybody" for finding this rare gem. If you haven't seen this original documentary from the 1997 VHS "Masterpiece" edition, here it is in two parts.

Part 2

That's because it was already on the 1997 VHS & laserdisc and the 2003 DVD. And Disney wouldn't re-use a short documentary three times. Oh wait...Peter Pan.

I find it extremely odd, and yet appropriate for you musicradio, to somehow link a 1997 Disney documentary to a 1970s radio DJ.

Not exactly rare for anyone who has the old VHS, laserdisc, or DVD. ;)

Thanks for posting it. I don't own neither the VHS, Laserdisc or the Special Edition DVD so i'll quite enjoy it. If you find anything else worth posting please do. :)

I think I saw this before but...

Does anyone know if any of the other SE DVD featurettes are viewable online? Such as the pan & scan vs. Widescreeeeeen video, or the original story outline...

thanks a heap :)
