That really sucks, Ballzo! This is the reason I seldomly buy off of Ebay (only sell) and an even bigger reason I haven't bought the Limited Edition DVDs.

Very unfortunate (obviously), and the next course of action I would take is to file a mail fraud report. I've done this before a few years ago and I think the link might be somehwre on the USPS website. You have nothing to lose by filing one.

I did so and wrote off the $60 I lost. Then nearly a year later I received a check in the mail from the guy accompanied by an explanation from the USPS...he had apparently been prosecuted and was forced to make restitution.

Contact the credit card company you used through Paypal. If it hasn't been that long, they should be able to withhold funds from Paypal.

I'm sorry to hear about that it's very sad news.
That's really sad to hear that E-bay won't refund your money.

If you used a credit card for the purchase through PayPal you can always do a chargeback through the credit card company showing them that PayPal stated the seller was in error they should honor this request. However, you will want to check the PayPal agreement because this may cause repercussions with them in regards to future orders.

As edm114 said, file a dispute with your credit card company. Be sure to provide them with a copy of the email from PayPal admitting that the seller never met his obligations.

PayPal may not have any way to get the money back from the seller, but your credit card company can still get your money back from PayPal.

Yeah, def. go with the credit card dispute. Read over your Pay Pal agreement first, but don't wait too long. And the USPS report might not hurt either.

I was supposed to have written up a piece about how to spot a fake on eBay for the site, but I'm sorry to say I haven't gotten to it yet - I kept having to put it off. I've scanned photos and stuff like that already.

I'll try to get to it in the next few weeks.

There are a few tricks to figuring out which auctions are for bootlegs (I know this wasn't what the post was about...) so hopefully I'll have that finished soon.

WHY, pray tell, would eBay owe him a dime? He didn't get ripped off by eBay; he got ripped off by the seller. If eBay/PayPal cannot extract funds from the fraudulent seller in order to compensate him for his loss, then are you suggesting that they should pony up the cash out of their own pocket and out of the goodness of their hearts? Corporations don't work that way.

Well I think Ebay/Paypal should be responsible for whatever happens in their service. They are the ones offering this service they're liable for whatever wrong doing that happens in their dominions or "service" .

The only way Ebay would be able to refund such transactions is if each transaction also had a small "insurance" payment added on. That way, sucessful transactions would subsidise the bad ones.

Somehow, I don't see most Ebay users supporting this.

Easiest thing to do would be to just stick to that old credo "Let the Buyer Beware." Let's face it, $5 for any of these wonderful movies on DVD is a bargain you would ordinarily be VERY hard pressed to find, and - if it seems too good to be true - it probably is.

Someone up above mentioned $5 for a DVD - regardless the same caveat applies - let the buyer beware. It's such a same that people have to do that kind of thing to someone like what happened to Ballzo.

Yeah, I don't see eBay being responsible in this particular scenario. Witholding payment to PayPal via your credit card is fine.

Thanks everyone! yall are the best! I do not hold Ebay responsible at all. I just checked the seller that ripped me's profile and he is no longer a registered user. I will file a claim with my credit co. on mon and let you know how it all turns out. Thanks again to everyone!

I had bought the Little mermaid and it was a copy i just sent it back and got a refund. But i bought another one and it was real. I think the chapter insert wasn't though. I also bought 101 dalmatians so I hope that is real. Does anyone elese Little Mermaid real dvd have bad picture quailty for the back and chapter insert? But now as I type this and look at the dvd I think it is a fake. I only paid 25.00 and it works fine but still I'm mad its not the real thing when they said it was!
