Special Editions for 2009
Today I was wondering about next year, concluding that only two special editions were announced so far, Pinocchio and Snow White.
I was wondering about Oliver and Company, but I checked out that the 20th Anniversary Edition has been announced too.
Anybody knows anything about possible special editions for 2009?
Spanish DVD site zonadvd has announced two special editions for next year, Pocahontas and Mulan.
Since the 10th Anniversary Edition wasn't edited in Spain (and in Portugal where I'm from, Spain and Portugal get the same editions at the same time, exception for Dumbo's Big Top Edition that hasn't came out in Portugal), it's possible that we are getting the 10th Anniversary Edition but... Pocahontas turns 14 in 2009, so this edition will be some kind out of place.... new edition perhaps?
And for Mulan, we have the 2004 2 disc special edition, why a new one?
Any news about this 2?
http://www.zonadvd.com/modules.php?name ... &sid=17777 for Pocahontas
http://www.zonadvd.com/modules.php?name ... &sid=17776 for Mulan
(I doubt that this 2 movies will get new special editions, or else, I'll be very angry for Hunchback and Hercules... me and everybody else)

Well apparently Pocahontas and Mulan are recieving Musical Masterpiece Editions in the UK (although that still could be rumor). That could be what these sites are talking about.
As far as possible Special Editions that could come out this year, here's a list of films that havn't been "updated" for a while, that could possibly get a new release...
Melody Time
Make Mine Music
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad
Fun and Fancy Free
The Rescuers
The Rescuers Down Under
The Black Cauldron
The Great Mouse Detective
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Hercules
Atlantis: The Lost Empire
Lilo & Stitch
Other than that, you'll just have to wait and see like the rest of us.

Hercules and Hunchback would be great titles to push Blu-Ray with. I could see Summer releases for both.
Though part of me doubts very much that any non platinum catalog titles will be released on Blu-Ray before Snow White. Not that I care as I'm still buying the DVDs, but I don't see Hunchback or Hercules coming on DVD with a Blu-Ray release as well.

Musical masterpiece like Aladdin?
For me, I'd like to see special editions of Black Cauldron and Ichabod for next year.
Pete's Dragon. Please Disney, we need a new edition BEFORE Mickey Rooney dies!
Disney Channel died when they stopped airing movies with Haley mills (Parent Trap and Pollyanna) and fun adventure movies like Swiss Family Robinson. R.I.P. the REAL Disney Channel. Date of Death: When the shows became teenie bopperish.

They don't. When the Weinsteins left Miramax, they took this film (and several others, along with the Dimension label) with them.jrboy wrote:I don't believe Disney has the rights to this one any moreMickeyfan1990 wrote: -The Thief and The Cobbler Ultimate Edition but under the Disney Label
Yes. But I'm sure Mickeyfan simply wants a new edition with additional extras and the Disney name.supertalies wrote:Didn't this one already had a beautiful 2-disc set?Mickeyfan1990 wrote:-Who Framed Roger Rabbit for a 20th Anniversary Treament but under the Disney Label
Too true on both, though at least the DVDs that are already out there are quite good (good transfers, a small-but-nice selection of extras). They still could use improvement, though, especially as multiple cuts of Bedknobs and Broomsticks exist and it'd be interesting to see the theatrical cut again (aside from infrequent TCM broadcasts and old VHS tapes). Or, if we could be so lucky, a truly restored Premiere cut with "A Step in the Right Direction" intact and the original audio tracks found (so we don't have the crap that is the 1996 dubbings, with lines like "mango wuzzle" sounding so abysmally horrible that you think Charlie was five years younger than he is)SwordintheStone777 wrote:Bedknobs And Broomsticks should get a new DVD treatment, because just like somone stated with Pete's Dragon, that Angela Lansbury won't be around forever as well. Freaky Friday (1976) needs a good special edition too.

Wouldn't they have to actually find the audio to remove the dubbing though?Escapay wrote:Or, if we could be so lucky, a truly restored Premiere cut with "A Step in the Right Direction" intact and the original audio tracks found (so we don't have the crap that is the 1996 dubbings, with lines like "mango wuzzle" sounding so abysmally horrible that you think Charlie was five years younger than he is)

That's why I said "if we could be so lucky". After all, Metropolis existed incomplete for years before they found the complete version only a few months ago.my chicken is infected wrote:Wouldn't they have to actually find the audio to remove the dubbing though?Escapay wrote:Or, if we could be so lucky, a truly restored Premiere cut with "A Step in the Right Direction" intact and the original audio tracks found (so we don't have the crap that is the 1996 dubbings, with lines like "mango wuzzle" sounding so abysmally horrible that you think Charlie was five years younger than he is)
