Heartthrob Zac Efron will pick up the biggest pay cheque of his career when he signs on to star in the fourth Pirates Of The Caribbean movie, according to reports.

Disney bosses want to groom Efron to eventually replace Johnny Depp as the star of the franchise, and they are offering him $10 million (GBP5.4 million) to star alongside Captain Jack Sparrow in the next installment of the blockbuster film series.

A source tells the National Enquirer, "Disney knew that Zac was reulctant to do any more High School Musical movies. He had already said there was 'no way' he'd return as Troy. So the Disney brass came up with an offer he couldn't refuse."

In-demand Efron has also been slated to take over from Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe on Broadway when the Brit's run in Equus comes to an end. The 21 year old hunk has denied those rumours.

As much as my inner self with a huge crush on zac efron is screaming "YES!!!" about this news, in truth I can't deny that this may be a very sad turn of events for y hops on PotC4.

Although if he's going to be in Equus, I think I might finally have my excuse to go see it!

With Efron it will transform into a strictly-adult fare with all sorts of people hogging the movie projector and screen. I tell you, they'll likely short-circuit the theatre's electrical system with all their sloberring and smooching.

I have no problem with Zac Efron, so I don't really care if he's in the Pirates movies.

However I don't think I like the idea of him "taking over" Jack Sparrow's place >_>

At least he'd look better than Daniel Ratcliff in the show *shudders than throws up in mouth at the though of seeing Daniel naked*. If he really was going into the porn, er I mean, "theatre" industry, I'm sure he could get more money just doing all that strippin' at clubs or online.

Back to Pirates STAY THE HELL OUT OF THOSE MOVIES EFRON! That is if he is but this news seems so outrageous I don't want it to be true.

really though, we havn't seen much of his capability, maybe he can surprise us all. We've basically only seen him play the same role over and over and over again.

Well.... I don't mind the idea of Zacypoo in the film. But, I don't think he can pull off the look..... either that or I don't want to see him that way.

well...maybe Efron will substitute Deep's character...in a scene where Jack is about to be killed but being fortunately saved by that strange blond-haired pirate...who died in that instant!

My only pet peeve with these news (if they are true) is that they hope to replace Sparrow with Zac.

I'm sorry, but the main reason Pirates is so popular is because of Johnny Depp's wonderful performance as Jack Sparrow. He pretty much defined the series by himself. So strong that Disney added him to the rides.

If they made it so that they had a funny rivalry or are even villains then fine. But if they replaced him completely then the series has lost its appeal, and I doubt Zac will be good enough to be the lead in the series.
