Oliver & Company- 20th Anniversary Edition

Post by singerguy04 »

This article says that we should be seeing it Feb 3rd.

http://www.videobusiness.com/index.asp? ... c=topstory

It suggests that it wont be released as a Blu-ray, which does and doesn't surprise me.

Thanks Fflewduur for the link and posting it in the Pinnochio PE thread.

I knew it.

Nice to finally see my logical fact-based predictions panning out. Probably will get announced with the Wall-E of Little Mermaid II DVDs.

If the transfer's cleaned up, I'd spring for this again. I really enjoy "Oliver & Company", it's a fun film with modest ambitions. Plus I like anything that's set in New York City in the 70's and 80's, even if it's just drawn that way.

Odd that you should mention that because it's related to one of my beefs with the film. It's mostly noticeable in the opening sequences---in the wide shots, our characters seem to be the only thing MOVING, which is just not very NYC.

"Perfect Isn't Easy" is my personal highlight: Bette & Barry, together again!

Yes! Can't wait for this release, the quality of the current DVD really bothers me.

Loved the movie, especially the great extended climax it had. And the song "Why Should I Worry" is just so catchy!

I WANT IT ON BLU-RAY!!!!!

Why has it only been announced for DVD? Aren't most other upcoming releases being released on Blu? Disney are releasing every kind of live action catalogue title on BD - not just their stellar hits. They've started the animated Blu ball rolling now but are they going to tempt us only with the Platinums? As fantastic as they are, we all love the other titles, right?

Come on Disney, make it Blu!

I might get this. I do not own the current DVD yet and I don't feel like paying $20 for it.

I'll only get this if the bonus features are decent...I mean, as non-special as the Special Edition is, it wouldn't be hard to add even one worthwhile bonus feature.

I can't even explain how EXCITED I am about this release. Oliver and Company is one of my favorite Disney films, it is very underrated I must say. I figured it would be coming soon, with the release of The Aristocats and 101 Dalmatians - it's kind of a cat and dog themed year. I've been holding off on getting it in hopes for a newer version. I can't wait to finally have this one in my collection!! :D Can't wait to see the cover art!

I'm really excited for this, as I don't have it yet, either!

I really like it, but I'm surprised Disney isn't going Blu for it.

It won't be a must-get for me, but at the very least an item on my B-Day list.

I was hoping that Disney would start releasing other DACs on Blu-ray besides their PE line. Come on Disney...don't neglect your other classics!!

It could be that Disney is still waiting to see how DAC's are selling on blu-ray. Sleeping Beauty and Pinnochio are sure sellers on Blu-ray. If sales are high enough, maybe we'll see a DAC outside of the PE's released on blu-ray over the summer or going into fall '09.

We also have to keep in mind that Disney might actually have to give the films outside of the platinum line a real restoration since even the DVD releases on some are very weak. I shutter to see The Great Mouse Detective the way it currently is on blu-ray. I may be overexagerating but the films in that era really should get a better restoration before they go to blu-ray.

Oh, yes, I totally agree with you about the restorations. I would LOVE to have THE BLACK CAULDRON & OLIVER & COMPANY (along with all the other DACs) on Blu-ray...but not until they restore them. If they don't restore them, what's the point of them being on Blu-ray??!!

I just wish they could speed things up a bit, but I understand about waiting to see how their going to sell and I'm willing to wait for quality!

Me too! It's lovely! <3

I want this movie in my DVD collection but I'm going to wait and see the review for this 20th anniversary edition to decide whether I want to pursue it or the Special Edition from years ago.

Well, the UD Main Page confirms it...nothing new on Oliver & Company aside from a game and slipcover. No mention on the transfer, so it may get a minor clean-up (or simply be the same one), similar to the other single-disc re-issues of the past 3 years.
UD wrote:The studio has also announced a 20th Anniversary Edition DVD for Oliver & Company for release on February 3, 2009. The rerelease will boast an all-new game, extras from the film's 2002 debut, and the all-important foil-embossed slipcover, but little else new or noteworthy.

So Much for New quality Bonus Features....

Unless you like that ALL-NEW Game that they boast about...that or you want that pretty slipcover :P

Here's to the hopes of a better Transfer for the 2009 DVD - Woof Woof or Meow Meow :P
