Toy Story films headed back to theaters in 3-D

I never saw Meet The Robinsons because I heard it sucked.

I've been to plenty of red-and-blue 3D movies like Spy Kids 3D, Sharkboy and Lavagirl, etc. (And yes these are kids' movies, but so are these!)

Heck, Hannah Montana's concert had the red-and-blue lenses... as much as it sucked. And I just hate their advertising... they made it sound like you had to get these special Hannah Montana glasses (which made my mom drive to 50 Wal-Mart stores before she finally found some), when we have like 8 of those already from various DVD sets.

So you mean it'll be 2D and 3D in theaters? I meant more along the lines of a home video release... but that'll be interesting to see nonetheless. Only good theaters here are the AMC (with "IMAX", though based on how they showed The Dark Knight, I'm guessing it's not a "true" IMAX) and Palladium (local theater near me). So maybe the IMAX screen will be 3D and the others 2D.

I really hope you decide to pass on that judment someday and just see the film for yourself. I know this is completely off subject, but this is a film that really turned around my faith in Disney feature animation. I think it at least deserves you to give it a try.

To be honest, I'm not sure if I would care to see these in 3D. I don't mind the novelty of 3D, i just don't think it works well and is distracting. I saw The Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D last year in Chicago and I found myself distracted by the 3D images and not really watching the film. I just don't see 3D as a serious improvement in film. Although, you can't argue with $$$ and it will probably bring in a lot of $$$.

And me being the kind of guy I am, I probably will go and see all the films in theatre because the whole 3D thing will probably stab at my curiosity enough to make me wanna give it a try. I am weak, and Disney knows it...

Well, I saw Chicken Little in theaters... I thought it was good animation-wise but the story wasn't that great and it was more of a little-kids' movie (much like Madagascar etc.)

And so I heard about Meet the Robinsons. It's not Pixar, so I wasn't interested in seeing it. Some friends of mine saw it and said they didn't like it... I assume they mean the story as they really don't care about "quality of animation."

And yeah. I'm gonna see Toy Story in 3D just to see what they did with it, but I agree that it can be distracting at times...

You should see it and judge it according to YOUR thoughts, not your friends.

Believe me when I say that I too was surprised when I first saw the movie. The animation and style is pretty charming and well made. The story is very good, save for a rough spot in the middle, and ends on a great Disney charmer.

Its leagues better than Chicken Little. There are some random jokes, but the film concentrates on telling a good story than trying to outdo Dreamworks or even Pixar (funny enough, John Lasseter actually instructed the director to change a lot of scenes in the film, so while it isn't a Pixar film it received a lot of help from them

).

I say give it a chance. Forget what your friends said. Forget what WE say and YOU just watch the movie.

Meet the Robinsons may not be pixar, but John Lasseter was involved quite s bit for what its worth. he made them scrap half the movie and made some serious changes to meet his standards. I wont put it on the same level as a Pixar movie, because it is kind of generic at times, but its worth seeing at least once. if only for the villain

back to Toy Story: yeah I meant in theaters as far as the glasses go. they cant really do polarized 3d at home yet until there is a standard in place. the main road block is most TV refresh rates aren't high enough. it cant be done without a noticeable flicker.
they likely will not release the 3d one for household players for quite some time. companies are in no rush to bring this kind of 3d home anyway, as this is what brings people into theaters, to get an experience you cant get anywhere else.
and I don't see them doing the blue/red glasses either, as it looks like crap. it may be acceptable for Hanna Montana and shrek but those are essentially a poor man's theme park attraction. a gimmick. not real movies. spy kids 3d walks that line too.

all that being said, were pretty much guaranteed they'll release the 2d versions of the prints on blu-ray, and that alone excites me. just seeing the first 2 movies with modern shaders in high def. *drool*

I just came here to announce that too. heh

anyway, it goes without saying I'm really excited for this. Toy Story 2 was/is my favorite movie of all time. for a while I was bummed that I would have to wait till next year, so I'm glad that now only has it been bumped up, but I'll get to watch it right after the first one. the only way this could get better is if they bumped up toy story 3 to make this a triple feature.

Also worth announcing, the Toy Story 3 trailer will be attached to this.

I don't think I will be seeing either Toy Story or Toy Story 2 in theaters when they release them in 3D. I am not that interested in seeing them in 3D to begin with, besides which I have already seen them in theaters when they were originally released.

With 'Toy Story 2's former date being occupied by 'Beauty and the Beast,' I'm trying to think of something specific in the latter that would really pop off the screen with 3-D technology. The extra dimension will add depth to the artwork, but I can't think of something that would work like a '3-D gimmick' - not that its important, but the current features being made in 3-D all seem to be sprinkling them throughout without overdoing it. I wonder if any of the animation will be altered to take advantage of the technology.
