Anyone know anything about Elvira DVDs?

Post by slave2moonlight »

With Halloween coming up, I'm looking for some new spooky funny, and while I have a few things in mind, it's those flashbacks from our childhood that are really fun on that particular holiday. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the Elvira DVDs that are out there.

As I understand it, there are a line of DVDs of her old show I used to see as a kid (I believe it's actually episodes of the show anyway), and these have really peaked my interest. Anyone seen them and have any comments or a suggestion of which is the best one to get?

There's also the Box of Horrors and a House on Haunted Hill/Night of the Living Dead DVD. Is this new Elvira material, if anyone knows? I probably wouldn't get it as a first choice though, as I already have DVDs with those flicks.

And, then there's something I'm very tempted to get, Elvira's direct to video movie from a few years back, Elvira's Haunted Hills. Anyone know if this is any good? How does it compare to her first movie, which I get a big kick out of?

There's also a 3D Elvira DVD, Encounter in the Third Dimension. Anyone know what the heck that DVD is?

Lastly, there's her big screen movie that I mentioned, but I already have that one.

Well, blockbuster seems to have them... at least on Blockbuster.com

Maybe check your local store and see if they have rental versions that you can watch.

well, "Elvira: Mistress of the Dark" is hilarious especially if you like sarcastic humor - but you've seen that. As far as Elvira's Haunted Hills - if I remember correctly, it was pretty bad and not worth watching - but it's been a while since i've seen it. If you decide to rent it/buy it - let me know if what you thought of it and maybe i'll give it a 2nd chance.

I used watch her movies every time they came on tv.

However...I can't remember what the one is called. In one does she try to cook something and ends up making this weird casserole with potato chip crumbs and some creature I think comes out of it?? Sorry for the vagueness but that is all I really remember. Is it Mistress of the Dark?
Yeah Disney!!!

Yes, that's it! That casserole actually looked pretty tasty after she added the spray cheese and crushed doritos or whatever they were, ha.

Thank you for letting me know that is it!! I've been wanting to buy it for a long time but didn't want to get all excited for it and have it be a different one...not that I wouldn't want it still.
Yeah Disney!!!

"Elvira: Mistress of the Dark" is one of my all-time fave movies! I quote from it all the time.

In regards to your first question, the range of DVDs released by Shout! Factory are double features all taken from the original broadcast run of "Elvira's Movie Macabre" (and were actually hand-picked by Ms Cassandra Peterson herself!).

The "Elvira's Box of Horrors" box set features more recent Elvira appearances; I own it and it's very fun. Her feature film "Elvira's Haunted Hills" is also quite enjoyable for it's own sake. It's a spoof on the Roger Corman/AIP "Poe" series of films (not a direct sequel to her first movie).
I'm just valentine candy and boxing-gloves!

If you go to Overstock.com, they seem to have a pretty good selection.

Thanks for the info. I'll see if I can find any of this stuff around before Halloween (didn't see any at the Best Buy near my house though).
