Attack of the Box-Sets!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, as the title of this topic suggests, I feel like R1 is getting a little bombarded by boxed together sets (not that I'm complaining). We havn't seen so many in years!

just this year we're getting...

Mulan/Mulan II
The Pixar Mega Set
TLM 1,2,&3
Peter Pan 1,2, and Tinker Bell

I really love the box art for TLM Trilogy, so I don't know if I'm going to have to sell my copies of TLM PE and TLM: Ariel's Begining for this set. Same goes for Peter Pan, depending on it's cover art as well. Gee, I'm a huge chump for this...

Yes! I'm so excited for TLM boxset because they used the Japan cover for it, which I think is beautiful! I can't wait to see TLM 2 cover art.

And Peter Pan's is pretty exciting too. I'll get Tinker Bell on Blu-Ray when it comes out, then get the boxset so that I'll have Tinker Bell on regular DVD too.

But on the upcoming cover art page, the Little Mermaid 2 SE and TLM Boxset is listed under December 26th, not December 16th. Which date is it? I'm assuming the 16th, and it was just a typo.

as soon as i read that i thought to my self now what am i going to do my my TLM and PP platinum editions. I think i might save them and then sell them in like 5 years on amazon or give them to my newly born cousin when she get older.

These releases are good for people who do not own the DVD's but I own them all, so I have no reason to re-buy the films again.

I don't know if I want to waste another 20 bucks on Ariel's Beginning to get that Trilogy (I don't mind getting the Platinum again, though--my first DVD starting to stick ). But I'll probably end up getting it--at least I'll have another 100 points.

And I seriously considered the Pixar set, but I've already got Finding Nemo, Monster's Inc. and The Incredibles so I don't see the worth in buying it.

This is good news for me. I already have TLM and TLM: AB so I probably wont be getting that set, but I will definetly pick up the Peter Pan Trilogy and maybe the Pixar one.

Do you think the movies will come with their respective slip covers in the Trilogy?

It's just like putting all three in a fancy little box, the ultimate slipcover I guess...what a waste in my opinon.

I think Disney will make some money off of this. I believe that this is just a way for Disney to get rid of the extra Peter Pan DVDs they have let over before it goes back into the vault. After they stop selling them what else would they do with the extras? Throw them out? At least Disney can make some money this way.

I do think Disney is being kind of dumb with this release; not so much with releasing a box set, but the fact that they're re-releasing TLM II in December and it will disappear again in January. It doesn't really matter to me, because I didn't like TLM II or Ariel's Beginning, but those who want Return To The Sea better grab it before it disappears very fast. You'll only have a little more than a month!

It's likely a typo as the 16th is a Tuesday and the 26th is a Friday.

Perhapsthe Cindy PE and Cindy 3 each sold a nice amount of copies that given the near-universal hatred of Cindy 2, asking people to buy a redundant boxset with it would have been overkill.

As long as there are reyquilas in the world, then yes they will.

Plus, there are people in the world who don't keep up with this kind of news the way fervent Disney fans do, so when they see a boxset with 3 movies and they loved one of them as a kid but never heard of the other two, they'll think, "Hey, three movies in a set! I should get it! I loved that movie! And I've never seen the other two! Yay!"

The boxset is another way to sell extra stock, yes. But it's not necessarily Disney saying to stores "Okay, the title is vaulted, send back your copies." They simply stop *producing* new discs. So the vault date is really more of a notice to retailers that after a certain date, whatever stock they have left in their warehouses will sell until they run out, and then by another certain date (that Disney probably doesn't share with consumers, because they want the "it's going in the vault!" furor to go on before the announced vault date), the retailers send back whatever they still didn't sell.

They're dumb with half their releases.

They did the same with Cindy 2 when it streeted on DVD in December 2007, to be vaulted by January 2008. Also when Bambi and the Great Prince of the Forest streeted in February 2006 and went OOP a couple months later in April (though it could still be found on shelves for up to a year after, at least in my areas). Limiting the sales window creates an artificial need (in the unknowing consumers' minds) to acquire it before it runs out.

What is this Pixar mega set?

I bought the Mulan one simply because it was only $5 more than Mulan by itself (I kid you not... at Target, Mulan (no slipcover btw) is $20, and the set was on sale for $25), and it came with a slipcover for Mulan. It also had 200 Movie Rewards points (normally 100, but it was doubled for a while)

I have no interest in the TLM or Peter Pan sets, since I have both PEs and I heard their sequels sucked. My sister also owns the original DVD release of Return to Neverland (I want to say 2003 or 4?). But I'm a fan of all the Pixar movies, so I might get it if it's anything good.

I have Toy Story (The Ultimate Toy Box set, which to my knowledge is still the best one out there), The Incredibles (2 discs), Finding Nemo (2 discs), Monsters, Inc. (2 discs), Ratatouille (1 disc), and a DVD+R copy of Cars. I think that's it...
So I'd have really no use in this set? It doesn't include anything not released before?

I dunno, I have to see the artwork for the TLM set. I've never seen the sequels, and really don't care since it strikes me more as a girly movie... Peter Pan I have 2 of the 3 so why would I bother?

I sometimes wonder what it'd be like to live inside your head, quilly. I have a feeling it'd be very hyper and energetic. Like someone hooked you to an IV of Red Bull or something.

I didn't intend for them to sound so happy happy joy joy about a box set, but then again, the idea of buying multiple movies for a lower price than buying them separately always makes some people (like Paul and Sam) more excited than they should be.

Only if you want a superfluous outer box and a real DVD for Cars.

Nothing. It's a simple repackaging.
