Return to Oz Fairuza Balk introduction

I was reading the review of the Return to Oz. One of the things the review says is this " Disney's DVD loses the 10-second introduction from Fairuza Balk that was on the Anchor Bay DVD"

My dvd of Return of Oz is not the Anchor Bay dvd release, but the Disney release. It still has the 10 second introduction by Fairuza Balk. I just purchased the dvd, so maybe Disney made a change and put the 10 second introduction back in.

Does it also have the interview with her? I only have the Anchor Bay one currently, but of course I want the "official" Disney version. I also only have the Anchor Bay releases of Happiest Millionaire (they released a regular one and a Roadshow version), Cat from Outer Space (still have to check if that is one of my DVDs that got damaged at one point in an accident), and one Disney hasn't released, "The Bears and I", which I have had forever but still haven't gotten around to watching. I HAD the Anchor Bay release of Black Hole, but when I got the Disney one, I got rid of the Anchor Bay one because it wasn't in the best condition anyway (from that aforementioned accident).

Yes it does, along with the theatrical trailer and 4 TV spots and 16x9 enhancement to the video. It's still missing the hour long TV special about the making of the movie (which can be found online) and it could have plenty more commentary and fetaurettes to make it better. But that 'aint gonna happen.

A shame. I vaguely remember seeing that special. This one totally deserves a 2-disc set! Well, at least it means I can pass on my Anchor Bay copy to my little sis when I get this one. One of my favorite movies to watch around Halloween or anytime of the year.

You know Disney's version is Oz is closer to the books than the 1939 Mgm version of Oz. But like the 1939 Mgm version changed Dorothy's silver slippers to ruby slippers, the Disney version also changed Dorothy's silver slippers to ruby slippers. My guess is since the 1939 Mgm movie "The Wizard of Oz" is so well known, that a lot of people would not understand why Dorothy's slippers would be silver.

Yes, I read the books for the first time a couple of years ago because I had heard about that since the film came out. I wonder if Disney had to pay a pretty penny to make the slippers in the style of the MGM movie...

Thanks so much for that link, Flower's Friend! I'm a big Return to Oz fan and think it's the best of the 80s fantasy films (unless one were to count E.T. as fantasy, but I consider it sci-fi). As much as I adore MGM's musical, it's refreshing to see a take more in-tune with Baum's world and Denslow's illustrations. That TV special was excellent, and there was no excuse for leaving it off the DVD. If Disney had added that along with the deleted/extended scenes described on the site, the current disc would've been pretty decent, and without much extra effort from Disney, either. Well, there's always the BD...
