Future non-Platinum releases?
Now that the Platinums for the next two years were announced, anybody happen to know what non-Platinum releases there will be in the next two years?
The Gold Collection DVDs that still need replacement include:
Make Mine Music
Fan and Fancy Free
Melody Time
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad
The Black Cauldron
The Rescuers Down Under
Hercules
And there's also some straight-to-DVD sequels like Pocahontas II and live action movies like Pete's Dragon that are still in the Gold Collection. It would be great if Disney re-released these over the next few years.

All GC titles deserve better releases, as do films like Hunchback and Oliver and Co.
We know Oliver and Company is coming soon since Disney has registered a domain name for it. I'm guessing it'll probably be announced on the 101 Dalmatians DVDs that come out this month and will be 2009's first week of February release.
The Black Cauldron has a new special edition coming out in Europe this fall, now that isn't necessarily a sign of a N. American release, but it could be.
All others are completely unknown at the moment.

Really? I searched for results on Amazon UK but the only result that turned up was the old GC edition.Widdi wrote:The Black Cauldron has a new special edition coming out in Europe this fall, now that isn't necessarily a sign of a N. American release, but it could be.

How many times do us poor British have to tell you? The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Alice in Wonderland: 2-Disc Masterpiece Edition had a pamphlet which had an ad for a Lilo And Stitch: Masterpiece Edition, Mary Poppins: Masterpiece Edition, & the Pocahontas: Masterpiece Edition. The last two DVDs were rebranded as anniversary editions. The Ad was the last time a 2-disc L&S has had anything said about it and that was in 2004, so it's very unlikely it's coming to R1.Ariel'sprince wrote:I remember I heard something about an upcoming new Lilo And Stitch DVD,anyone knows something about it?.

LOL, the new Sword In the Stone wasn't a special edition, it was a downgrade from the GCC
Some of those GCCs were great, like Robin Hood (again, that SE wasn't an improvement at all... it was just a step down). Hercules could use another release, though, I agree.

I don't think that the Sword In The Stone is worth buying (I like the movie but the features sounds lame).
Anyone has a cover of the new Black Cauldron? I whould love to see a new DVD

I agree about Sword in the Stone being a step down. But i thought Robin Hood was a little bit of a step up with the deleted scene and a slightly better picture quality. Anyways i really hope that all of the films you mentioned get a better dvd (or bluray) release for 2 reasons. 1)I love The Black Cauldron and Hercules. Also The Rescuers Down Under might mean a better release for the original Rescuers. 2) I have seen every film in the cannon except for Make Mine Music and The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad and saludos amigos so hopefully a re release for the first 2 means a copy for my local video stores.

It doesn't suprise me at all that Disney is using the same cover art for Germany as they did for our TBC release, the company probably doesn't see it worthy of it.
I've said it a couple of times before but I really hate the GC dvds. They were so rushed and frantic that to me besides the film that's on them they are useless. What frustrates me the most is their cover art. They are all like really cheap clip art. I've seen better fan art for the most part. So although a lot of these special editions aren't much of an upgrade at all, I at least find value in their cover art, lol.
I'm suprised no one has mentioned The Great Mouse Detective, I would LOVE to see a newer version of that! I'm pretty sure that Oliver & Company is coming pretty soon, maybe as soon as January or February, as Widdi said Disney has the Domain name on it and I could see them pressing it as a bluray release as well.

It's place holder cover art. The used our old Sword in the Stone cover art too in this ad, but the release has different art.singerguy04 wrote:It doesn't suprise me at all that Disney is using the same cover art for Germany as they did for our TBC release, the company probably doesn't see it worthy of it.
I'm searching around to see if I can find anything else on the release.

stewie15, Robin Hood really wasn't better quality... all they did was chop the top and bottom off and make it anamorphic widescreen so it's more picture-to-pixels if that makes sense. Otherwise they both look exactly the same.
One special feature difference, not really a big deal to me.
And the reason I hate the new Robin Hood is mainly the fact that it wasn't the open matte transfer... you really lose a lot of the picture in that.

So just take the slipcover off one and put it on the Gold Classics Collection version.
