Demi Lovato the new Hilary Duff?

Post by Matt »

What do you guys think?

I actually like Demi. She is a really sweet teen (from you youtube videos and interviews.) I never knew her and Selena Gomez was on barney lol. I wonder which ones. but anyway, I think she is going to become the new Hilary Duff which is kinda a good thing. I think she will be around Disney Channel for a while, what's your opinion? :)

She seems.. alright. Her voice is nothing memorable, in every way that Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez and all the rest of Disney channel's voices are unmemorable. Her acting, not as likable as Selena Gomez, but a different kind of annoying than Miley Cyrus (more whiney AND more boring, where Miley is just.. not funny and the very last word in "annoying"). While looks aren't everything, and it's not my place or anyone else's to judge, I think Miley and Selena have much more destinct looks, and Demi sort of.. blends in with the wall. NOT ugly, just.. plain.

Hilary Duff was SO popular, and as long ago as it feels, it's hard to remember that she pretty much every bit as popular as Miley Cyrus, in a world with no Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, AND everything else Disney Channel "has going for it." Hilary Duff was to a degree, a better actress than Demi and while a VERY annoying voice, a slightly different-ish sound.

I can't stand seeing Miley all over the place; I'm probably going to hit myself very, very hard in the head if I see Demi as much as I see her, I think.
:ears: I heart Disneyland :ears:

shes just another one of Disney Channels teenage actors...like Miley, Selena, Raven, Hilary...there spectacular only for a couple of years...then they get replaced.

to this day I still think Hilary Duff reigns supreme over all...(next to Brenda Song anyways  )

I LOVE Demi Lovato. I did enjoy Hilary Duff during her era, but not nearly as much as Demi. Demi has a very.. interesting voice, but a great one nevertheless. I saw the Jonas Brothers Burnin' Up Tour, where Demi opened and she sounds AMAZING live. She also has a new Disney Channel series called Welcome to Mollywood, which is come out in 2009 I believe.

She's also in Camp Rock, for those of you who don't know who she is. You still might not know, but that's what she's mainly known from.

You mean they are marketable only for a couple years and then they get replaced.

It's all disposable pop music sung by teenage girls (or boys) who are a dime a dozen.

If anybody remembers who Hilary Duff, Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers or this new girl are 20 years from now I'll eat my left arm.

I'll still be listening to them 20 years from now, so get the salt & pepper, Widdi! :)

I absolutely adore Demi Lovato- she's so talented!!! I remember being blown away the first time I heard her sing- in an episode of As the Bell Rings on Disney Channel. She does seem really nice, and I've seen her live before (and I am again tomorrow, yay!!!), and she's got a lot of energy, and her voice is awesome! I'm definitely anticipating her CD on September 23rd- I really think that she's going to be tied with Mandy Moore as my favorite female singer- I like Demi that much! I really like her style of music (I mean, Jonas Brothers helped her write for her album, and they produced some (if not all) of her album, so it is a similar style to Jonas Brothers' music), and her voice is great! :)

For those who dont know who she is Demi Lovato got her fame in the film "Camp Rock" starring the Jonas Brothers.

I tried to sit through the film, gave up on it after half an hr.

She seems more tolerable than Miley Cyrus though.

Hilary will always reign supreme for me. She's been one of my biggest obsessions, though it's not as strong as it used to be because I am more into movies than albums and her career seems to have gone more in the singing direction, which I'm rather sad about.

But Miley already took the title of the "next Hilary Duff", so shouldn't the next girl be called the "next Hannah Montana"? I don't know. Anyway, this new girl doesn't appeal to me at all. Miley has some appeal that I can understand. I think her show has terrible acting nearly all around, but I think her acting shows comedic potential. One can see that the acting is worst in the earlier episodes. Miley can look really pretty too, sometimes anyway. I actually think Miley is way bigger than Hilary ever was, but I think at first it just looked that way because Disney decided to make up for not over-merchandising Lizzie McGuire by overmerchandising Hannah. However, I think this successfully made her bigger than Hilary was. Of course, it says a lot for Hilary that she became so big without all the overmerchandising. There really wasn't much out there for Hilary fans. Almost nothing in comparison, even when she got a big screen movie. Late in the game, Disney started trying to merchandise Lizzie at the Disney Store, but they kept it geared to the toon Lizzie...

Anywho, if I was going to pick the next Hilary, or Miley, or whoever, I'd push for Selena Gomez, who IS actually following in Hil's footsteps with Cinderella Story 2. I like her better as an actress and she's exceptionally beautiful, though I admit that I can get tired of her cocky character on Wizards. There are some new girls coming on that may get pretty popular too though, like maybe this one who is going to be on Suite Life on Deck, and even on Camp Rock there are girls I'd rather watch in future movies/shows than Demi. Still, I've seen girls with a lot of potential come and go on the Disney Channel. I don't think Hil or Miley will be easily forgotten (the Jonas Brothers might be, the boys often are, but then there's Shia), but the others usually are forgotten pretty quickly. I am still hoping for more success for the Panabaker sisters, whom I adore, especially Kay (though I think Danielle is on a TV series right now?).

Well, I think that Demi just needs more of a chance to shine. She's only been on As The Bell Rings and Camp Rock, both of which I honestly couldn't stand too much, yet I love her. If you visit her Youtube channel (therealdemilovato), you get to see just how close her and Selena are in real life, plus other videos of her on tour with the Jonas Brothers. I think she's hysterical, and I like that what you see is what you get with her. Miley is all innocent on Hannah Montana, but then she does stupid things when she's not on the show. She's all "saving herself until marriage," but she takes half-naked pictures of herself? She's just going to turn out horribly, and it would have been different if I liked her since day one, but I haven't. I never thought she could act, her voice is kind of raspy, and she really isn't THAT pretty.

As for Hilary Duff - I loved Lizzie McGuire, but I never saw the obsession in her. I didn't think she could sing that well either; it wasn't TERRIBLE, and it was much better than Miley, but still not really all that well. I loved the series and the movie, but I just think Selena and Demi together are going to do wonderfully. Maybe not Demi alone, but with Selena, the two can be as big as everyone thinks they will be. Within time, Demi will get more credit with the more she's involved in, like her new show coming out next year. Selena does an amazing job on Wizards, and she has the BEST comedic timing that I've ever seen on the Disney Channel (which is hard to say, because Raven kind of set that standard).

Anyway, not here to bash anyone because I love the Disney Channel and the many marketing girls they've had, but I just think we need to wait Demi out and see what else she has to offer, because I know we're not done with her yet. She's too involved with the Jonas Brothers to be dropped anytime soon.

:( :x No way!!! Even if Jonas Brothers aren't as popular in a few years as they are now, they'll never be forgotten! I mean, I'm a fan of theirs for life, but even when their popularity dies down (like Hanson's & Backstreet Boys', who are my 2 other favorite bands, besides The Beatles), they'll still be remembered for being the biggest teen hearthrobs of the end of this decade. And I can definitely see them always performing, even 20 years from now! :)

Oh, and Demi last night was awesome! She really has so much energy, and she sang, played piano, and played guitar! And the fans love her- I think it's great that Jonas Brothers fans have accepted her like they have!

That song title's a bit ironic considering what this thread was about.

WOW time has flew by since this thread and me personally I think she has been getting annoyin. I cannot stand Sunny With A Chance for anything lol. My niece and nephew don't like to watch it as well. It is really boring. I like Selena Gomez 100 times better. I know they are best friends but Selena is more of a humable person.

Amy don't be mad at me lol

Demi is humble, too!!!!

:x

I don't hate you, Matt. It's okay. :D

What makes you think that she's not humble? And I do like "Sonny With a Chance"- I think that it's funny, and I like the characters.

Her new song gets better with each listen! Yay! So excited for her new album!
