Interested to know where you are as the first DVD set of RR released in Europe had 20 episodes for starters (as opposed to 27 in the US) I believe.

Okay now I'm very worried what happen to DuckTales, Rescue Rangers, Gummi Bears, Darkwing Duck and TaleSpin sets?

Okay Warner, Lionsgate, paramount and others sell season sets if they don't do good they still release the next season.

Disney it's your fault that the Disney afternoon season sets don't sell well what happen to the bonus features or behind the scenes extras.

They put zero love into these releases. No clean ups or extras, but I'd still like to see them finish these releases up so I can have complete collections. If Bravestarr, Defenders of the Earth, Filmation's Ghostbusters, Galaxy Rangers, Galaxy High, and other much less popular shows can have full releases, why can't these? A majority only have one more volume to go anyways. Disney owes it to their fans to finish these off after the money we pour into them.

At this point, I'd take these as a Movie Rewards DVD exclusive like Treasure of the Lost Lamp and Zorro or a DVD on Demand like Nicktoons or Charles in Charge:

Would love to see Ducktales Volume 4! We're currently watching Vol. 3 with our daughter and would love to see the rest of the episodes.

Why did they stop releasing the Disney Afternoon DVDs? It's infuriating. I honestly wouldn't have bought the few that I did if I had known they wouldn't finish each series. If I knew that they would finish them I would purchase the rest of the ones I want.

1) They stopped selling them because enough people stopped buying them
2) I really dont get why it matters to have a complete collection of any of these. While I too would like complete collections of Talespin, Ducktales and Animaniacs among others, not having all the episodes really does not effect me enjoyment of any of the other episodes. I get it if say they gave you everything in Twin Peak's initial storyline except revealing who the murderer was but none of the stories are particularly connected.

We may not ever get the rest of the shows, but personally I'm just glad we got what we did. Better to have half (or more) than none at all. I remember watching these shows as a kid and love the fact I can watch them now anytime I want for the most part.

Well, one could argue it was better that Laura's murder never be solved...especially considering the quality of the stories that followed that resolution. :P

I think they'd still be profitable if they were released. Maybe, just not to the big levels that Disney expects out of each of their releases.

I don't see any reason why they couldn't at least finish them off as a DVD on Demand or in the Movie/Rewards Club. Disney has some pretty obscure titles in the club that the Disney Afternoon cartoons would definitely outperform.

My take on these releases is that they cost virtually nothing to make. They don't clean up the episodes or make any bonus features. They slap them on a disc, have someone create menus and artwork for the package and they ship them to stores. They do zero advertising to consumers hoping they will sell themselves. They haven't abandoned this concept either, since the recent volume releases of X-Men are done the same way, except those are 2-disc sets instead of 3. The other large error Disney made with them was releasing them a year apart. The rule of thumb with TV shows on DVDs is that you lose consumers with subsequent volumes and the amount of time between them. One year in between volumes is too much time for a show that is more than 10 years old. Other studios have been quicker with their releases and Disney has changed their tune, again, with X-Men.

I think part of the problem was that Disney wanted to much money per volume for shows that people will buy for nostalgia. At $15-20, a lot of people would buy it on a whim. At $30-40, only the big fans are going to pick it up.

I agree that Disney should release these in some way. It would be great if we could get them on disc, either through print-on-demand service or Disney Movie Club Exclusives, but it is more likely that these shows will be part of Disney's online subscription service that is coming where for a monthly fee, you will have access to lots of Disney movies and TV shows. Hopefully this service won't be expensive and will be compatible with TV devices, such as AppleTV, so we aren't limited to watching them on computer screens or in low quality.

The irony is that Disney expects to not have to do even one tv ad for these DVDs to sell, and now they think that people don't want them? Virtually nobody's even aware that these DVDs exist BECAUSE Disney didn't market them.

PLus, printing the discs, making sure that they have discs to print, and cost of Cover Art and Disc art, does add to the price. So I wouldn't say virtually nothing.

I meant in comparison to other Disney DVD releases. For new movies and shows, bonus features are produced and for older Disney releases, there is usually some form of restoration done and occasionally some bonus feature produced. Yes, the physical elements of a DVD have a price, but it is quite minimal. I think I read somewhere that to produce a DVD, it costs $0.10. That doesn't include royalties, but that is the cost of the plastic and paper used to make it.
