Mulan - Now this brought back some memories. I used to watch this all the time when I was younger. Not the best of the 90s, but it ranks up there. B+


Tarzan - Great film, with spectacular animation and characters. Similar to "Mulan," it is not the best of the decade but it's decent. B

Saw "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" at the movies today. It was weird the way it started and I still don't like the character designs much (I much prefer the way it looked as a 2D animated series), but it was still pretty darn good. I give it a thumbs up if you don't expect anything epic or deep. It's basically the Jedi on a mission, in this case: save Jabba's baby. A shame they didn't make an action figure of the main character, Anakin's padawan. I checked Wal-Mart today, but no dice. Would love a figure of the Hutt baby too. Funny little thing.

Hasbro has that in the cards for the next wave in Oct. The reason why they did that was the late announcement that there whould be a movie released so much before the show. Which is why Grievous has a action figure despite only seen in passing in the film's opening, this was meant to be for a TV show and thus whould come out in small bursts and not the A-bombing of toys we get for a normal Star Wars film. One other thing is that when they do release a Ahsoka Tano figure Rotta the Hutt will be her 'accessory' so in time you will get both of who you want in one.

I watched "Bye Bye, Red Riding Hood" last night. There are things I LOVE about this movie, but as far as making sense, well, either it wasn't dubbed well or it just doesn't, ha.

I should be going to sleep, I have really been depriving myself this week, but I've got to watch Little Mermaid 3 right now. I bought Nightmare Before Christmas on Blu-Ray today as well, but I can't watch it because I still need a Blu-Ray player.

Just watched Little Mermaid 3. Was impressed with the visuals for a direct to video film (up there with some of the other final Disney direct-to-videos, anyway; and I think people would have liked Disney direct to video if they'd all looked this good and if the stories/songs had been improved). However, I was disappointed in the fact that it didn't seem a believable prequel as far as tying into the original film goes. The TV series was a better prequelization. I loved Arista and the fact that we got to know Ariel's sisters better though. Didn't care for the Manatee, and the original songs were forgettable. The villain's song was like a lot of these wannabe showtune songs on direct to video animated films in that it didn't even really have a catchy tune but was all over the place trying to be grand. I hate it when they do that. Overall, it was a decent story but felt like it was in an alternate universe, even if some of the characters, particularly Ariel, did act like themselves (not so much Flounder). I don't buy from the original that there were 10 years before it of music being banned by Triton though. And I love Jim Cummings, but he was not a good choice for Triton. Sounded more like a much older Triton if at all. Jodi Benson still has a voice from heaven though. And I loved the bonus feature about the Broadway show.

Oh yeah, I keep forgetting to mention this, but it's funny how directors are. The one scene in which Flounder actually acts like Flounder in Little Mermaid 3 is among the deleted scenes...

Oh, I LOVE Elisabeth Harnois in "My Date With the President's Daughter"! That's my idea of female perfection! Ha. I am so mad it hasn't come to DVD!!! Alicia is pretty close to my idea of perfect in Clueless too, but really only in "Clueless". Elisabeth though, she's pretty hard to top.

Wednesday night: In her shoes on TV.

I thought it would be an outright comedy, but it turned out a 'dramady'.
Toni Coletti as the 'good' sister (hard working lawyer, but not so sexy) Rose and Cameron Diaz as the 'bad'sister Maggie (an unemployed loafer and freeloader at Rose's home, but sexy looking). **SPOILER** After a big row between the sisters - Maggie slept with Rose's lover in her house and than called her 'fat pig'!-) Maggie is turned out the door and decides to go to her long-lost grandmother (Shirley McClaine) and ultimately finds her better self, while sister Rose picks up the pieces of her life and finds her true love. All doesn't go smoothly and there are some issues involved including some revelations about their long time death mother, but in the end the sisters are reconsiled with each other and everything ends happily.
All in all a pretty enjoyable movie and I always love to see Toni Coletti playing.

Why the title? Because both sisters have the same shoe size and Rose has many pairs of shoes her sister wants to wear. But I suspect the title is also meant in a more figurative sense.

Last night I watched Unfaithful. It's not usually my kind of movie, but I had been interested in seeing it for a while, and it was on Lifetime. I thought that it would be predictible in some parts, but it really wasn't, so I thought that it was an entertaining movie.

Watched Little Mermaid 2 again, and it was more enjoyable than the first time, though the flaws were still there.

Also saw "The Invasion" with Nicole Kidman, and Friday night I saw "Lost Boys 2" and "Diary of the Dead".

Invasion was pretty good. It overdid (in my opinion) the stuff about how humans are always at war and stuff, especially right before the end credits. That preachy stuff is so annoying since it's so overdone nowadays. Lost Boys 2 was fun. It's not as great as the original, but it's better than some of the bigscreen horror I've seen lately, like the pathetic Prom Night remake. The other Cory doing a cameo during the credits was pretty cool, but one of the alternate versions (in the deleted scenes) would have been cooler.

Diary of the Dead drags at times and I hate the bland narration, plus the best girl is barely in the movie (pigtailed blonde who leaves with the mummy guy). Still, it wasn't terrible.

Toy Story 2 I've watched this week for the first time on dvd!
I already had the movie on VHS, so I bought the dvd as replacement.
To my dismay, however, the dvd does have some more extra's than the video, but it does not contain the short about Luxo jr, contrary to the VHS tape!

Saw my first Dirty Harry movie today on AMC, "The Enforcer". Dirty Harry was really cool, but the plot of the movie was pretty... eh. I'm not big on most cop movies if they don't throw in some decent Sci-fi or other type aspects (and those still don't always work for me), though "The Big Easy" is a favorite film of mine, but in the past decade I've really tried to expand my film horizons, considering that I label myself a film fanatic. Sometimes, it's hard for me to watch cop films, or chick flicks, or jungle/desert war films, or a few others, but I'm trying, and some are gems. I also need to delve more into westerns. I have less time than ever though, even though it doesn't seem that I get much done.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 - Actually very good! I liked it better than the first one. All four girls were gorgeous throughout.

Saw The Ruins and Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay last night. Ruins was a really good horror movie. Didn't feel like something I've seen a hundred times before. Not that it isn't like, say, Cabin Fever and films like that in a way, but it still had original qualities to it that I liked. As for Harold and Kumar, hilarious, but one of the nastiest movies I've ever seen that actually went to the big screen.

I'm watching Meet the Robinsons right now.

I don't care what anybody says, this is the best movie Disney has made since the mid-90s. Yeah the story is preposterous, but I don't care. The characters are amazing and the writing is down right hilarious.
