Pay attention to what hand he is lifting when the fish says, "raise your right hand". HIS right hand is holding the trident. His left hand is being raised.
hahahah. Well, at least no one back-talked him or anything - he is the King of the Sea, after all! (He could zap ya! LOL) So yeah, what else was he going to do, eh?

But yeah, I noticed that. The clip was very nice . . . and I really, really, really envy people that have it right now!

Glad I saw them. Gives me some hope I might enjoy this. Please don't take that the wrong way either. I just mean how it connects with Athena.

Ugh... You're right.. That is pretty bad. That shows they didn't pay attention to detail... However, a little thing like that doesn't really bother me THAT much. Had his hand been shaped like a crab claw, now that would have been upsetting.

Apparently, the animators of TLM3 weren't the only ones not paying attention to detail:

Saw it on LAF, found this little typo so funny, I just had to post it.

And that's the start

As much as I've been less than enthralled by this movie from what I've sene so far, I have to say that I love Marina's number and Benjamin's character as well. The opening to me was rather flat, and as Siren said before, you barely have enough time to meet Athena and get to know her to really care about her death. Rather than buying this, this is certainly going to feel like only a rental to see what it's like.

they are. this was the last of them. they were already almost done with this movie when the decided to stop. it would have made no sense to cancel a movie 80% or whatever through production .

Does anyone think that Marina splashing up on the rock is not only a reference to Ariel in TLM, but to Vanessa, too? When she is on the wedding ship and she gets splashed and the whole situation with Scuttle? Just a thought.

I still wish there would've been an allusion to Ursula though...oh well!

I'm seeing so many things from TLM and TLM2 repeated in this film, and I love it. I'm totally making a video next weekend. :D

Nymbus, I'm not sure. I think it was just intended as a reference to Ariel's scene on the rock- it's not only shot-for-shot, but there's also a slight change in music, where you can hear the melody go "part of your world!" and then the splash. This is also a reprise, just like the scene it's spoofing was from a reprise.

I think that the rest is all just Marina's personality (which is hilarious, IMO).

I rented the movie (the video store got it a few days early).

In all honesty, it was much better than I expected.

While I do agree that the story could have been better (a lot of wasted potential, mainly with Athena and Marina) it was a very fun movie.

Even if Marina is a weak villain she is a strong character. She is very funny. Her song was quite funny, and the reprise was HILARIOUS! It was so random and unexpected in a Disney film. Ben also worked greatly as the "straight man" of the group. Its one of the film's highlights for me.

I really liked the interaction between Ariel and her sisters. The sisters, in both the movie and TV series, were basically set dressings. They were basically there. "Ariel has sisters".

This movie, though, brings them into a wonderful light. We actually see interacting with each other, and it develops Ariel even further as a character.

Animation was good, although I felt it was way more cartoony than the original. Ariel herself had some pretty goofy faces and expressions, like when she finds the Catfish club for the first time.

And yes, the character development on Flounder was pretty weird. In the original movie Flounder was this insecure, shy and scary little kid who clings onto Ariel for protection. But now he can outrun swordfish, avoid obstacles and actually tries hard to fit in a group.

Here's how I would have done it:
Flounder is caught making music. Ariel is the one that tries to intervene. When all fails Ariel grabs Flounder and run away. That would explain why Flounder clings onto Ariel and why he sees her as a friend; because she unwillingly rescued him from being arrested.

So to sum it up, the movie is far from a disaster. The animation's good, the music good and the story's pretty decent.

However, there's no denying that this feels like a movie made to cash off the popularity of the first film rather than to truly continue it in a grand manner. The weak story and character development proves that. While some will really enjoy this anyhow it could have been something more.

I give it a 7.5 out of 10. Good for a rent, only buy it if you are a hardcore Disney/Little Mermaid fan.

Awesome review, pap64- both positive and negative, rather than completely bitter or chipper. I was really hoping there would be something in the end of the film that explained why Flounder was being so out of character but... oh well. I think he was just there for comic relief, since Sebastian (who was the comic relief in the first two) actually has some more character, IMO.

Lucky! I wonder if the Disney Store here would have it four days early? I might be dropping by tomorrow... if not, I hope they have an amazing TLM snowglobe, which is the main reason why I want to go, anyway. :P

Maybe Wal-Mart might have it...?

The video store that I go to tends to reserve their movies in advance. While they do get some movies a few days later, many of them arrive early.

Its how I was able to watch Aladdin: Platinum Edition, The Lion King 1 1/2 and even Cinderella 3 a few days before release ;) .

Hmm... I see. Well, I don't see the point in renting since I want to KEEP it. :P Plus, I don't have membership to a Blockbuster's or anything and even if I did, things come to Hawaii pretty slow. :(

Do you have a favorite part?

Like I said, anything with Marina and Ben. "Just one mistake" was great because of her outfits (which resemble old Ursula designs) and Ben going "ooh ooh!" during the chorus.

The reprise which happens after Triton discovers the Catfish club was also great, mainly because Marina celebrates her victory in such a grand way. While the "Part of your world" send off was great, I just LOVE how she swims in front of the castle and waves to the audience. It just cracks me up!

I also liked the scenes with Athena and Young King Triton, mainly because he is seen acting LIKE A FATHER! Really, Triton is so uptight that he treats his daughters like members of an army rather than family. Seeing him playing with the girls just warms your heart.

Also, does anyone find it funny that Athena and Triton have 6 DAUGHTERS. You would think that with all the love going on a boy would have been born out of the relationship.

Maybe mermen are rarer than mermaids? :p
