I'd rather they used the 2nd disc entirely for bonus content... while the craptacular 1-disc releases of the past 2 Pixar films haven't been devastating (since neither was anywhere near the top of my Pixar ranking), Wall-E certainly deserves a move back to the quality 2-disc releases we're accustomed to. And that means bonus features, not a digital copy. If I want a digital copy, I'll rip it myself after buying the thing. The only things from a Pixar DVD I usually want to put on my iPod, though, are the shorts.

As far as the cover goes, yeah it's cute. However, it doesn't make a lot of sense. Why are Eve and Mo with Wall-E outside of the probe ship... and why is Earth free of the orbiting garbage, and not an unhealthy brown? Also, what the heck is Wall-E waving that poor plant around for? Unless it's a species native to Krypton and not Earth, it certainly would not survive breaking atmosphere, nor exposure to the vacuum of space, lol. It also looks as if Wall-E could use a charge.
It just seems as if the designers of this cover chose a bunch of random elements from the movie at various points in the timeline, and threw them all together in a specific scene (in which most of them don't belong, to boot). I'd rather we got a cover that was less busy, and more "classy", as it were.

I see this is a placeholder entry now. But I managed to get my order in when they were accepting orders!2099net wrote:UK Blu-ray scheduled for Nov 24th

Except of course, you can't rip Blu-rays very well, and we are primarily talking about the BD release here. And even if you can, it’s a much slower process due to the size of the images and files. So giving a digital copy makes a lot of sense – it will discourage actual piracy, and if done correctly, will discourage the need for "ordinary" people to even have any BD ripping software, which again will discourage piracy. With DVD, the studios were slow, and failed to offer an alternative to home ripping and its gotten out of hand (from the studios point of view). With Blu-ray, the studios are making an effort to provide a workable alternative solution. I think they should be praised for this.potterrules93 wrote:how many people even use the digital copy anyways? you think the companies would realize that its a waste to release a digital copy. if people really wanted the movie on their ipod or whatever they would just rip it and buy the chaper dvd!

If you want a portable copy, that doesn't mean you don't want the best quality possible for home viewing. I don't see any reason why one use negates the other.

I really like the cover. I don't have a problem with the fact that it's not exactly movie accurate (and by the way, did we forget that WALL-E actually does hold the plant in space right before the dancing scene?). How many covers/posters that contain several characters together in setting are fully representative of an actual scene in the film? I don't see why it would be a problem here. I'm glad Disney didn't go with their usual Lead-Character-Over-the-Logo-with-the-Supporting-Cast-at-the-Bottom layout, even if it's mostly worked for them.
I'm not worried about the BD not being a 2-disc (if you ignore the Digital Copy disc). You can fit a lot of content onto a single BD. The Cars and Ratatouille BDs are very satisfying despite not quite being up to the same quality as Pixar's older Collector's Editions.

It's not the fact it isn't movie-accurate that bothers me; just that the cover seems too busy, on the whole. Like an over-eager 10yo kid hacking away with cut and paste in Photoshop, mixing a bunch of things that don't really look like they belong together. For the type of movie Wall-E was, I think a more understated (on the surface, anyway) cover would've been more fitting.Disneykid wrote:I really like the cover. Yeah, I do recall Wall-E holding the plant up in space... and Eve freaking out and erercting a forcefield around it prior to hugging him.
It's true you can fit more on a Blu-Ray than a DVD; even taking into account the fact that the movie in HD takes up a great deal more space. That's mostly due to the fact that the codecs in use on Blu-Ray are more much more efficient than MPEG-2. Still, many good movies could make a viable 2-disc blu-ray set if some effort were put into collecting the material.Disneykid wrote:I'm not worried about the BD not being a 2-disc (if you ignore the Digital Copy disc). Wall-E has now passed up Kung Fu Panda to become the #5 grossing movie of 2008.

Leave it to the French to know what I'm talking about. Irritating though they may be, they understand aesthetics in a way most North Americans either don't or don't bother with

If the second Blu-ray disc is just for the digital copy, then I expect the DVD will be the same as Prince Caspian, i.e. there will be copies available with and without the digital copy disc.JDCB1986 wrote:I know the Bluray cover has been posted...
But I saw a few people asking if the US DVD release would have the same cover... and... yes... it will.
notice the lack of "2-Disk Collector's Edition" :/

It's a file you can copy from the disc and play on your iPod or other potable media player.

although i do prefer that image...i don't like how low the title is and how bare the top is...had they bumped the title up to where they usually go, this would definitely be the better cover ! while i don't HATE the US cover... I do think it looks a bit like a video game rather than a movie cover... But I guess it falls in line with the rest of Pixar's less that great covers for their films.TM2-Megatron wrote:Leave it to the French to know what I'm talking about. With the excepion of A Bug's Life and the original Toy Story (VHS) covers... I have not liked any of the Pixar covers... I'd definitely say this WALL•E one is better than most of them have been, but the French cover is still better. I think the big thing I don't like is how un-organic the US cover feels. Very unlike the film itself... regardless if the cover is film accurate or not, they could have made it look a bit more organic and less flashy.
