I want to buy these DVDs but I've been holding out for better releases.(for a long time) Are these going back into the vault any time soon? I'm starting to think mabey I should buy these now just to be safe. I just wish they had better releases. What do you guys think? And if anybody knows any info about new releases for these moves I'd appreciate it! :)

As far as any of us know, those two movies will not be going into the Vault anytime soon. I think we know all of the releases we'll be getting this year.
There's a possibility, though, that they may be released next year since Disney seems to be digging through their Vault. But if you can't wait at least another year, and I'm making no guarentees, I'd buy them.

BUMP!

Okay, well, I have a question on which DVD to buy. They are all out of print, so eBay would be my choice of where to purchase them.

Beauty and the Beast: Platinum Edition
Tarzan : 2 Disc Collectors Edition
Atlantis: The Lost Empire : 2 Disc Collector's Edition
Mickey Mouse in Living Color Volume One
Mickey Mouse in Living Color Volume Two
Disneyland, USA
Mickey Mouse in Black and White Volume One
Mickey Mouse in Black and White Volume Two
Fantasia Anthology (If I even have enough...)

Any help is appreciated!!

Wow, where'd you dig up this old chestnut of a thread? It's like going back through time when I was a UD Newbie! Thanks for actually using this thread, even 4 years later! ;-)

I'm sure you know this, but be VERY careful in that there's a high chance that you may end up with a bootleg and you may have to pay a hefty price for that.

First, I've VERY RARELY came across BatB, Tarzan, Atlantis, and Fantasia Anthology (got Tarzan and Fantasia when I saw it b/c I knew I'd never see it again) at stores that sell used DVDs, but I've NEVER seen those particular Treasures in recent years other when they were released. Escapay got lucky and found Disneyland, USA at Wal-Mart one Christmas season. If you're going purely on the hard-to-findness of the DVDs on your list, you should go for one of the Treasures, though these days, it's tough to find any Disney DVD that's not Cinderella III in Used DVDs.

If hard-to-findness in real life is not the issue, then it all depends on what you really really want. Do you want Animated Features more so than shorts? Do you value the bonus features and documentaries then the movie? Do you enjoy the Disney parks more so than Disney animation? If you could answer any of these questions, then you've answered your own question. If you're torn between all of them, here's the general attitude I personally have towards the DVDs on your list:

Beauty and the Beast: Platinum Edition:
SW is still IMO, the best and most inclusive and complete of possible bonus features out of all the Platinums and BatB comes second. I enjoy the movie a lot and there's enough bonus features to satisfy your thirst for behind the scenes info. The Story Behind the Story feature explores different Disney animated films with Disney celebrity presenters that looks at concept art and the original source material for each one and how Disney disneyfied them. The kiddie fluff features are the least boring of other DVD set-top games and there's a nice featurette with Shia LeBouf post "Even Stevens" and pre "Transformers" presenting Disney Animation Magic. All in all, IMO this is the best choice of the Animated Features in your list.

Tarzan : 2 Disc Collectors Edition
I really enjoyed this movie and the features on this 2-Disc made me appreciate it even more! The bonus content was not as memorable as the early Platinums, but this being an early DVD Collectors Edition, there's certainly plenty of material to keep you busy.

Atlantis: The Lost Empire : 2 Disc Collector's Edition
Don't have it. So I don't know...

Mickey Mouse in Living Color Volume One
The REALLY classic Mickey shorts are on this volume ("Boatbuilders", "Hawaiian Holiday", "Mickey's Trailer", "Brave Little Taylor", etc.) and some lesser known ones like "Mickey's Polo Team." This one is enjoyable because there are a lot of caricatures of famous Hollywood celebrities from this era. There aren't too many bonus features on this volume, but the classic shorts speak for themselves. If you're a fan of Classic Mickey Mouse, this is the volume to get!

Mickey Mouse in Living Color Volume Two
This volume has a lot of really diverse cartoons despite it being composed of Mickey Mouse cartoons. Mickey's evolultion with time made him less active in his own shorts than he was in the Black and Whites and MMILC Vol I. Pluto ends up starring in most of the later shorts in this volume. This volume has a lot of cool bonuses like the 80s short "Mouse Mania" and an interview with real life couple Wayne Alwine and Russi Taylor (the current voices of Mickey and Minnie) and some documentaries and things. Also, this volume has Mickey's 80's/90's shorts. "Runaway Brain" is a madcap ride of scifi Mickey adventure and I think can only be found on this DVD. This volume of MMILC is great if you enjoy the modern, more laid back Mickey and like more bonus features focusing on Mickey.

Disneyland, USA
I looooooooove this DVD! When I became a more serious Disney fan, it was because of the theme parks and this DVD celebrates the very first one! The DVD set is made up of Disneyland the TV show that showcased the park. It's a terrific trip back to the days of a consistent Disney Sunday Evening special of the 50's and 60's and you also get to see how Americans saw Disneyland in its early days. The newer Disneyland Treasure focuses more so on the past and present while this one focuses on the past. If you love the Disney theme parks, this is the DVD to get!

Mickey Mouse in Black and White Volume One
Don't have it. :(

Mickey Mouse in Black and White Volume Two
I have this, but I find myself watching the color shorts a lot more than the black and white shorts. The known ones aren't on this volume, but some great shorts come from the later years presented on this set (a.k.a. the ones that came out right before color shorts premiered). Mickey Plays Papa is a great short and there's one short where Mickey and the Gang reenact Uncle Tom's Cabin. Other than those shorts, I can't really remember what else is on here as I don't watch it often enough.

Fantasia Anthology
I bought this as soon as Escapay and I found it used at Sam Goody last summer. Sadly though, I haven't had a chance to explore all the bonus features despite having the DVD for a year already. From what I've heard, the documentaries on this set are terrific and it's especially something you must own if you love the Fantasia movies.

Wow, Kram, thanks so much for the advice! :)

Well, I have seen the Beauty and the Beast bonus features from when I rented it from a local video store. I'd really only be getting it so I could complete my Platinum Edition collection.

Tim(PrincePhillipFan) informed me that Atlantis is still available, so I'll cross that off of my list.

I haven't seen Tarzan since when I was really little, so I remember next to nothing about the movie. (Though I listen to the Broadway album a lot, so I know I love the music.)

I'm not as interested in Mickey Mouse: Black and White than I am in the Living Color volumes. Out of all of those, I think I'd want Living Color Volume Two, as it has my favorite Mickey Mouse short (er, featurette), Mickey's Christmas Carol.

The Disneyland, USA set has been reccomended to me many times. I have the Secrets, Stories, and Magic one, and I actually found myself liking the newer documentaries/featurettes, better than the older ones. I even skipped one or two older ones.

I have never seen Fantasia or Fantasia 2000, so I'm not even sure I would like them.

I think I'm going to go after the Treasures first.

Thanks again, Kram!

Let's see...

I have basically all Disney animated movies... in different ways.

So I'll list all the very good editions I have that aren't worh investing in them again:

1. Fantasia/Fantasia 2000

2. Dumbo (60th Anniversary)

3. Peter Pan Specal Edition

4. The Sword in the Stone

5. Sleeping Beauty

All of those are VERY good. More so than in the Extras section, the video and audio quality.

And that's the most important thing to me, since I don't particularly love or watch these ovies that often as to "upgrade" them.

6. Robin Hood (Gold Collection)

7. The Rescuers

8. The Great Mouse Detective

9. Oliver and Company

10. The Resuers Down Under

... those are movies that for me, even tough lacking in video or audio quality, don't care because they're not THAT bad; although RESCUERS DOWN UNDER deserves at least a much better video quality.

11. Tarzan

12. The Emperor's New Groove

13. Atlantis: The Lost Emipre

...their 2 Disc Editions ARE awesome... but if you're not that much into these movies, as far as quality in video and audio are concerned the single disc editions are enough.

14. Pocahontas (Gold Collection)

15. Mulan (Gold Collection)

16. Alice in Wonderland (Gold Collection)

.... REALLY deserve to be upgraded to their new editions.

And of course, waiting for the Special Editions of: Hercules and Hunchback of Notre Dame. As far as editions go, HUNCHBACK is the best of the 2 but still. As the only editions available they're ok for the price.

... and here's hoping for the Special Edition of BLACK CAULDRON; not so much for LILO & STITCH since I'm living now in Spain and can get it whenever I want.

I have a pretty dumb question but I figure it never hurts to ask. I've been hunting for Pinocchio on DVD, along with Hercules (I've seen it in stores in my area, but the price is always no less than $30, and stores like Best Buy don't carry it in stock). I also want The Jungle Book in its OAR (as displayed in the LI), AND I want to see TLM on DVD in its unedited format (as in, the complete wedding scene with the preist's "not-boner" intact). I've seen the Animated Anthology in FYE used for around $200, and I know it's probably not worth it, but what do you think? I have the LI editions 101 Dalmatians, Peter Pan, and Lady and the Tramp, but I have had a hard time hunting down a copy of Pinocchio, TJB and TLM. I don't yet own Mulan on DVD, and I wouldn't mind owning the LI version because it contains the fullscreen and widescreen versions of the film, and I know TLK 2 has an OOP SE out (which I own). I really want the Animated Anthology, but I'm not sure. I know time is not an issue for me because I've seen it there for a while (probably due to the insane price).

If you can hold out till Spring, Pinocchio will be the next release in the Platinum series---and it's bound to look a lot better than the extant Gold Collection disc.

You're right, I completely forgot about that! I think I'll go to FYE and see if they have the LIs of TLM or TJB used individually (even though they're sold for about $20 apiece).
