Wonderlicious wrote:[ The UK "collector's edition" will probably be similar to the recent 101 Dalmatians and Jungle Book deluxe sets released over here, as well as the Snow White set from a few years ago. Essentially, the DVD is included in a book-shaped set, along with a book containing artwork and film-stills. I expect the Sleeping Beauty set to very much mirror the two most recent "deluxe" editions, whose books are all pictures and no text. Here is a thread containing pictures and information on the sets for 101 Dalmatians. I'm sure that pictures for The Jungle Book were also posted somewhere, but I can't find them at present.

Thanks!!!

It looks fantastic. I can't wait for this Sleeping Beauty edition to come out.
I would love to see such a book about this film.

On the topic of Sleeping Beauty, have you guys heard this version of "Once upon a dream"?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Eto_kf- ... re=related

I personally like it! I like the echo effect, and I like how they had part of the musical score (I recognize it as the music that plays when the animals are prepping up the owl, just before the song begins).

EDIT: Also, I realized something...

Back in March Disney released 101 Dalmatians. In October, Disney will release Sleeping Beauty.

Isn't it funny/kooky that in the same year we are getting both the movie that was too ambitious for its era (Sleeping Beauty) and the movie that ushered in a new era and animation style at Disney (101 Dalmatians)?

^Or rather, the movie that almost bankrupt the studio and the film that saved it from said bankruptcy.

ps. thanks for the youtube link! Although I must admit, I preferred the film version, but at least you can hear more Bill Shirley!

A lot of people have been saying... "I don't have a bluray player, but I'm buying it on Bluray anyway and I will also buy a copy on DVD."

Now you don't have to buy two copies... You can buy the Bluray... and you will still get the film on DVD... I am confused at why everyone is so baffled by that.

They are trying to get you to move towards Bluray... and if they have to include a copy of the film on a more popular format (DVD) in order to get you moving in that direction, it's worth the extra .2 cents they have to pay for the 3rd disc.

And to clarify why it would have some of the same bonus features repeated... Simple... They already had the DVD made with the film and a selection of bonus features... it's much less expensive and less time consuming to just make a few extra copies of that disc and slap it into the Bluray package than it is to completely rework the disc with different features and a different layout etc...
I totally agree with you. This seems like a wise move for Disney to get people to buy Blu-ray Disc's...

I am going to buy the Norwegian DVD & Blu-ray-releases of Sleeping Beauty (Tornerose, Briar Rose, as we call it in Norway), as well as the British Blu-ray and the British DVD Giftpack-release. I am also thinking about buying the American and the Japanses editions. The Japanese edition got some beautiful cover-art! :D

Now here's something interesting. DVDTimes has posted a very detailed bonus features listing for the R2 DVD. It breaks down the DVD galleries and the castle walkthrough, confirms two different versions of "I Happen to Have A Picture" and the inclusion of "Grand Canyon," and curiously enough, mentions two versions of the Peter Tchaikovsky. You can see it here: http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=68488

Another interesting thing is that I received my usual newsletter for Disney Rewards Visa cardholders, and there's a brief section about this release. It doesn't reveal anything new necessarily, but rather clarification. It makes careful note to say that the BD's CineExplore feature will actually contain unique supplements. This is news to me since I figured Sleeping Beauty's CineExplore would just replicate the confirmed bonus material (which, in retrospect, actually doesn't make sense since CineExplore and the film are on a different disc from the main supplements). This would also explain why the “Eyvind Earle: The Man and His Art” and soundtrack restoration featurettes aren't listed on DVDTimes' press release. If CineExplore contains more featurettes like these that we don't know of, yet, this could be the most exhaustive release for a Disney animated classic ever.

Target.com is also <a href="http://www.target.com/Sleeping-Two-Disc ... listing</a> the 3-disc (2 BD+1 DVD) Platinum Edition release...is this supposed to be a not-very-exclusive exclusive offer, or is this standard for the package and the information has yet to trickle down?

Yeah I spotted that. Well the Peter Tchaikovsky story was originally a full hour episode of the anthology series in the US. But as with so many episodes it had a theatrical release overseas (mostly in the UK). So let's hope it has the original TV ep and the theatrical version.

Hi there!

I want to buy a blu-ray player to play the 25 blu-ray's I already own :D
I'm still waiting since I believed I heard someone say that to play disney's Sleeping Beauty and gain full access to al ''extra'' features one should get a certain type of player, 2.0 or 2.1 I believe, so that I don't have to ''upgrade'' in order to play all different sorts of blu-rays ?????
And should it be a Sony or Samsung, since those are the most advanced in Holland at the moment???????

Can anyone help me, I would be ever so gratefull!!!!!

Sorry I know this has already been said here (at least I believe so  )
can't seem to find it though! thanx again 8)
When it comes to brains, I got the lion-share,
but when it comes to bruth strength, I'm afraid I'm at the shallow end of the gene pool

I'd like to know whether Grand Canyon will now be an anamorphic transfer. It is such a wonderful piece of cinematography with a great music score!

Probably you have to be non-American in order really to appreciate that feature. ;)

PS3 is the best way to go, it's one of the cheapest Blu-Ray players (here anyway), it will play every Blu-Ray due to firmware updates (I think the final Blu-Ray type is already available though), it's a Sony, plays games, upscales DVDs etc.

Profile 1.1, now called Bonus View, accommodates picture-in-picture commentary. Profile 2.0, now called BD Live, requires an internet connection; a fairly in-depth rundown on Sleeping Beauty's BD Live features can be found at blu-ray.com (<a href="http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=1412">link</a>)---the news mod there attended the Washington, DC Sleeping Beauty BD Live event, did a writeup, and posted some very nice hi-res photos as well.

I won't presume to recommend a player. The PS3 is a very popular choice; there are cheaper models becoming available stateside---but that doesn't help much, does it? I feel I should mention a number of Samsung customers have been disappointed with the tech support they've been offered for some models...

Thanks for the posting that link, Disneykid! I'm happy that they managed to include the Grand Canyon again under publicity. And I'm very interested when it comes to behind the scenes of Disney attractions, so the lights on mode for the walk-thru sounds very interesting. I hope Tony Baxter will be on the audio commentary for it as well. I love hearing him speak about the concepts of an attraction and how much enthusiasm he has for it, especially since Sleeping Beauty is his favorite Disney film.

Got my email reply from WDHE. Regardless of the discrepancies among retailers in the product listing, there's nothing exclusive about the bonus DVD with the Blu-ray release:
Walt Disney Studio Home Entertainment Consumer Relations wrote:Thank you for your e-mail regarding SLEEPING BEAUTY Blu-ray. We appreciate your interest.

The 3 discs are standard (2-Disc Blu-ray set plus DVD of feature film) for the product.

If you have any other questions or concerns...

Question? Question??

The Sleeping Beauty Blu-Ray is going to have 3 discs?? I thought the whole point of Blu-Ray was too fit a bunch of stuff one one disc??

Amazon now has a promo image verifies the bonus DVD as being the film itself:

Image

While the inclusion of a standard DVD copy of disc one is still a little odd to me, I have to commend Disney for doing this. Now people can enjoy the new restoration anywhere they go and don't have to worry about double dipping if they don't have a Blu-Ray player, yet.

That's really a dumb idea if you look at it. You still have to get a Blu-Ray player to view the bonus features. I think I am gonna just get a PS3 for the time being. I really want Blu-Ray stuff now lol.

When will we be able to watch Blu-Ray on our PC's? and be able to back up our movies as well.

Thank you Disney!

This has made me so happy! Now I can save $15 by not buying the DVD.

On a semi-related topic: Please do the same to Wall-e as well.
