On the live action front, just in time for the Presidential election, Warner will deliver a 3-disc JFK: Ultimate Collector's Edition on DVD, including special packaging, 3 hours of bonus content and collectible memorabilia, as well as an all new documentary, The Kennedy's: America's Emerald Kings. This title will also be available on Blu-ray Disc format in Digibook packaging


A Casablanca: Ultimate Collector's Edition box set is also coming to both DVD and Blu-ray Disc. Both will include 40 minutes of special features, 2 feature-length commentaries, branded travel-related premiums, a photo book, and much more.




As for more recent live action fare, an I Am Legend: Ultimate Collector's Edition box set will be available on both DVD and Blu-ray Disc, and will include an alternate version of the film with the "controversial ending," all-new special features such as a new filmmaker commentary, deleted scenes, "iconic" premium collectible items and more.




Finally, the A Christmas Story: Ultimate Collector's Edition will soon be announced, set to include the previous 2-disc DVD special edition along with exclusive premiums only available in the set. We're waiting to hear if any new disc-based content will be included, but we do know that this will also be released on Blu-ray Disc format.

Also, a 300: Limited Collector's Edition box set will be available this fall on DVD only, as a special box set including all the previous DVD extras along with two new documentaries (Recreating the Spartan Era and 300: Legend Filtered Through History, Graphic Novel and Film), as well as other exclusive memorabilia (a lenticular hologram, artwork cards and more). The reason it's DVD only? The studio tells us that a much more elaborate Blu-ray Disc version is currently in production for release in 2009, complete with new BD-Live and Bonus View content. It's tentatively set for about mid-year, so watch it to arrive in stores about a year from now. We'll have more details as they become available.

MINE! This is one of the few times where I'll actually want physical goodies accompanying my movie. This is going to be make either a sweet birthday gift or a sweet Christmas gift to me, depending on when it's released.

(And as awesome as my current Wizard of Oz set is, I'm hoping the BD for that next year is done in a similar fashion to Casablanca's. If so, I may just soil myself...after I've wept hysterically and screamed non-stop for 75 minutes).

Disney, why the (expetive deleted) don't you treat YOUR crowned jewels this way?

Thanks for the back up, Netty! I looked up How the West Was Won on Amazon, and the BD will be a 2-disc here in the states, too. I'm not sure why WB is so inconsistent in this regard. Even though HWWW is 2 and a half hours, length shouldn't really be an issue on this format.

And when the heck is WB going to issue a press release for Casablanca? Not only am I dying to know a release date (at this point, it'll be no earlier than October), but I'm curious as to what new features this set will have. The current DVD is fantastic as it is.

I would like to see it because there's obviously something wrong with The Digital Bits blurb. 40 minutes of special feautres? The existing Casablanca has hours of extras! Does it mean 40 minutes of New Extras? If so, will it retain all of the old special features? Can 40 minutes of new features be fitted onto a 2 DVD set without losing any of the existing stuff?

Warner Home Video has announced an Ultimate Collector's Edition of JFK which stars Kevin Costner. The 3-disc release will include the previously released 2-disc director's cut, as well as a Beyond JFK: A Question of Conspiracy documentary, and The Kennedys: America’s Emerald Kings, an extraordinary new documentary from filmmaker Robert Kline based on Thomas Maier’s acclaimed book about five generations of the renowned political family. Could Batman be next? They did it with Superman why not Batman? It wouldn't have as many discs i know, but they could include Gotham knight because its supposedly in cannon with BB and TDK. I really hope they do this because i think Batman deserves just a beautiful set as Superman does.

They're doing a Blu-ray set of the 1st 4 Batman films (not Batman Begins) so... its possible. But the Batman films already had their 2 disc sets, so who knows what will happen for DVD.

Perhaps they can give us the 150-minute Director's Cut of Batman Forever, with a new commentary from Schumacher, Kilmer, and Kidman, a featurette on making the Director's Cut and how it differs from the theatrical version (regarding the pacing, the story, etc.), and new interviews with Tommy Lee Jones and Nicole Kidman about the movie (since they only used 1995 ones in the two-disc set). Put it together with U2's "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" music video and all the extras from the 2005 DVD, and it'll be an excellent two-disc set!

I hope not. I really look forward to that feature, and I wouldn't want it to have a badder picture quality than the 'normal' one. Of all things, it should look better, because they're using more of the frame (and thus the resolution) with the Smilebox feature.

Warner Celebrates 40 Years of Woodstock


Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace & Music
Warner Home Video plans to release a 40th anniversary ultimate collectors edition DVD and Blu-ray Disc of the Oscar-winning original Woodstock concert film Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace & Music July 28, 2009. The title also will be available as a standalone DVD.

Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace & Music – Ultimate Collectors Edition will include several never-before-released festival performances in their entirety. The film will have been in an 18-month moratorium when it is released.

The release was announced just before the 39th anniversary of the seminal rock show that took place Aug. 15, 1969.

“The music, artists and spirit of Woodstock resonate as strongly today as in 1969,” said Jeff Baker, Warner’s EVP and GM of theatrical catalog. “We’re certain the film will strike a chord with those who remember, and may have even attended, Woodstock, but we also believe the music — some in extended cuts — will appeal to today’s youth generation who not only love rock music but are equally as committed now to the values surrounding Woodstock, like spirit of community, caring for the environment and idealistic change.

“Additionally, since we think of the ultimate collector’s edition as our ‘signature dish,’ if you will, we’re very excited that we’ll be giving the same attention to this iconic film as we have to our other top-tier titles such as ‘Harry Potter,’ Blade Runner, JFK and the upcoming Casablanca and A Christmas Story.”

The included four-hour director’s cut has been remastered from the film’s original elements, with supervision by director Michael Wadleigh. Original Woodstock chief engineer Eddie Kramer is overseeing the 5.1 audio mix of newly included footage.

The restored and remastered film will include previously unreleased full performances by The Who, Joe Cocker, Canned Heat, Joan Baez, Country Joe McDonald and Country Joe and the Fish, with more to be announced. Special features will include new perspectives from musicians and celebrities on the cultural significance of Woodstock.

Additional special features will include filmmaker commentary; replicas of handwritten notes from festival-goers; a 40-minute documentary film by Robert Kline called “The ’60s and the Woodstock Generation,” adapted from his book Children of the 60s; studio archive letters and other collectible items.

A multimillion dollar marketing campaign will include print, TV, online and viral advertising, with major promotional tie-ins.

“Woodstock was more than just a concert; it was an event. It was a time for our generation to speak up and let everyone know we had a voice,” said musician and Woodstock alumni David Crosby. “Whether you were there or are discovering the film for the first time, it still holds up 40 years later and now will speak to a whole new generation.”

I have nothing against Jack Warner at all and am genuinely interested in the documentary, but not enough to re-buy Casablanca, even for the new gubbins.

Seriously...if they wanted to include an additional documentary, they should've done one for Ingrid Bergman. For me, and I'm sure many others, Casablanca is just as much about Ingrid Bergman as it is about Humphrey Bogart, and WHV have taken a gross misstep in this release by not including a documentary about her. Surely they could have licenced out A&E's Biography episode ("A Passionate Life"), or even the 1984 PBS documentary (simply titled "Ingrid"). I haven't seen the PBS one, so I can't make any judgment calls on if it's good or bad, but I've seen the A&E one and it's pretty good (especially given how glossy and trivia-focused most of their Biography episodes end up being).
