Richard Roeper leaving Ebert & Roeper

Post by buffalobill »

Last episode will be the weekend of August 16/17th according to an article in the Chicago Sun-Times. His contract with Disney is up & they decided to part ways. He plans on doing a show for someone else. I hope he continues to team up with Michael Phillips who has been pretty much the permanent replacement this season after a slew of guest critics last year. Roger Ebert still does great written film criticism but is apparently not able to do tv (yet).

I wonder if the show will be cancelled? Or will Phillips and Scott take over? (the two major guests that replaced Ebert).

Ebert announced today he is also removing his name from the show saying that Disney wants to take the show in a direction he does not agree with and will have no part of.

The "two thumbs up" era is officially over.

Disney announced the new hosts of At The Movies. They'll be Jeffrey Lyons' son Ben & Ben Manckiewicz (sp). I think it is going to blow chunks. I've seen Lyons (on MSNBC a couple years ago he & his dad reviewed movies together on a Summer show) & he is a complete lightweight. Real criticism of movies on tv is dead.
