The creative team is seeking male performers of all cultural backgrounds for these roles.

SHREK: 20s – 30s. An ogre. His imposing physical appearance disguises a warm heart. A lonely outsider with soul, strength, and wit. Values his peaceful solitary life in the swamp. Seeking actors with a powerful presence and strength with true Rock or R&B voices. Preferably a baritone.

DONKEY: 20s – 30s. A performer with a contemporary, urban edge and great humor. Joins Shrek on his journey to capture Princess Fiona. Seeking unique performers especially from slam poetry, comedy, Hip Hop worlds or clever actors with great comic skill.

Anyone, no matter how Far Far Away, can try and audition for these roles! If you or a friend think you have what it takes to play Shrek or Donkey, follow the directions below:

1. Make a video recording of yourself singing one song and copy it on to a DVD. (No lip-syncing please – must be live!) Please clearly label the DVD with your name and contact information.
2. Take a photograph of yourself and print it out, or if you have one, send a copy of your headshot.
3. Put together a resume or list of background experience and, VERY IMPORTANT, your contact information – address, phone and e-mail.

BY SNAIL MAIL send items 1, 2 and 3 to:

I'd rather this not be on Broadway at all... one of the greatest failings of the entertainment industry these days is that it has no concept of when to stop milking things.

I was actually hoping that it would be a reality series on NBC like that Grease: You're The one that I want Talent Search; only thing it be called Who Wants to Be Shrek or Donkey on Broadway... that would have been more comical..... :P

Well, I guess it's official:

All you have to do to be successful in the entertainment business is fart, burp, makes the worst Scottish accent possible, and just "be there" on stage or on a screen, and you'll be successful.

*sigh*

Don't worry, some of us couldn't force ourselves to do said things.

I don't think putting Shrek on broadway would be any good. He's only funny in CGI.

Shrek: The Musical

Post by tsom »

Well, if you don't know already, Shrek is going to be a Broadway musical this Fall. It will be based on the book & the first movie only. The music is by Jeanine Tesori, who is also writing the music for Disney's upcoming "Rapunzel." The other day, 4 songs from the production that were used for Orchestra tests were released to the public. I wanted to share them with you guys because the music to all of them are really beautiful, and it might give us an idea of what "Rapunzel" might sound like.

The songs are:

Big, Bright, Beautiful World- Company

I Could Get Use To This- Donkey

I Know It's Today- Fiona as a child, teen, and adult

The Wall- Shrek

They are all awesome, but my favorite has to be "I Know It's Today." I hope we can get something like this song in "Rapunzel."

You can download the songs here:

I'll have to get the cast recording for this or something. Even though Shrek isn't that great of a movie, this'll probably have some good music. Plus, like you said, it could be a slight preview of the talent to expect in Rapunzel.

The music is very promising. Nice vocals, tunes and lyrics.

Love Fiona's song. Skip ahead, skip ahead!

Thanks for the link, tsom! Where did you get them?

Is this a demo cast or the actual cast? The actor singing for Donkey is the one who played Terk in the short run of Tarzan on Broadway! I hope he's in the original cast because he has the same attitude Donkey has.

I was a bit skeptic about the theater world suddenly deciding to make all these movies into musicals, but so far, they have not disappointed me yet.

It's the original cast, as this is a 5 track sampler of the OBCR.

I"ll hear this :D.
Update-I heard Fiona's song and it's priceless .
"Skip ahead,skip ahead".
"There was a princess,in a coma,and I"m glad it's her insted of me".
"Who needs a haircut".
"And she wished she was dead,I don't remember this part".
"And Rapunzel found a millionaire".
"Hello god,it's Fionaaaaaaaaa".
rotfl rotfl rotfl rotfl.
(Thought I don't compare Fiona to Rapunzel or Snow White, unless it's Shrek's Snow White and Rapunzel).
I really loved this song rotfl.

I Know Its Today is by far the best. It reminds me of If Only from TLM...due to all to voices singing together in harmony so well. I can't wait to see what that looks like live to have each Fiona on stage

This actually sounds pretty decent. Fiona's song is by far the best of the sampler.
