Wow, this is news. Than why is Hilary Duff having conflicts with Disney over money (or respect-whichever you believe).

I've done a little more digging and this seems to be a more accurate summary:
Produced by Stan Rogow Productions in association with Disney Channel, Lizzie McGuire is co-financed and co-distributed by Egmont Imagination UK.
So it looks like my original post is wrong.

However, given this quote later on, I assume Egmont's involvement with Lizzie is substantial, Disney wouldn't allow the non-American rights to go to another company without substantial financial investment.
Egmont Imagination manages the merchandising rights for Lizzie McGuire outside the US and Canada. Egmont Children's Books and Disney Publishing manage the publishing rights to the property, with various formats in the pipeline.

I think the actual US funding is done by Disney, but Stan Rogow is the production company that oversees, well direct production. Same deal with "Even Stevens" and Brookwell McNamara Entertainment.

Ultimately, Disney has the final say in what comes to DVD here, though.

I didn't want to create a new thread for this, but seriously...4 episodes on a $19.99 SRP DVD? What a rip-off.

$40 SRP for 8 episodes...when you can get 23 Simpsons episodes for $10 more or 33 Saved By The Bell episodes for $20 more. Or 26 hour-long ER episodes for $15 more. At $19.99 SRP for one volume of 4 episodes, that will mean that the entire 65-episode run of the show would carry an SRP of $325. Which obviously wouldn't happen. But this scheme is just low down and dirty. Not to mention the fact that 8 episodes could fit on one disc.

Why don't they just do season sets for this, Even Stevens, Boy Meets World, Home Improvement, Scrubs, Golden Girls, Smart Guy, etc. Fox and Sony wouldn't be bringing all these shows to DVD if they were losing money.

Although I dont plan on ever purchasing the series, this a HUGE rip-off.
And the sad thing is, itll sell like hotcakes, and show Disney that they can just release "best ofs" over season sets. (which are in higher demand)

Scrubs
Even Stevens
Golden Girls


They may not be the most popular shows ever, but they have a core audience. Maybe they should consider making the season sets, limited editions. That way, they only produce a small amount, and the core audience gets what they want. (and deserve)

I have no doubt that all 5 of the shows you just listed would be profitable for them. Only Scrubs really has musical rights to deal with, and if they were smart, they'd have cleared the songs for DVD when they cleared them for the show the last couple of years. All those shows are popular enough with people to buy them. And if stuff like "Soap" and "Sanford & Son" are profitable enough for Sony, then these undoubtedly would be for Disney.

What a bummer...I thought that someone was going to past that Disney will be released a Season 2 box set. Wishful thinking, I know. But I won't buy the Season 1 set without a Season 2 set, unless I want to buy the Season 1 set and the 4 individual 4-episode DVDs...
