Rambo Trilogy

Post by gregmasciola »

This topic has nothing to do with Disney (or animation). I was wondering if anyone out there has owned both the special edition and the ultimate edition of the Rambo trilogy starring Sylvester Stallone.
Now that I've got an HDTV, I've noticed a few DVDs of mine don't look very good. I use an upconverting DVD player, so if the film got a decent transfer, it looks great. If it didn't get that good of a transfer, it's more noticeable than on a regular TV.
So basically, I watched my original copy of First Blood and it felt very grainy. I rented the Ultimate Edition of it and felt that it looked MUCH better. I'd give the original DVD a 6/10, and the Ultimate Edition an 8.5/10. The Special Edition seems to come with better bonus features, but I am not sure how good the picture quality is (for me picture quality comes before bonus features).
Does anyone know if the Special Edition & Ultimate Edition both contain the same transfer?

I think the Ultimate Editions have a different transfer, but I'm not completely sure.

If you don't want Rambo (Rambo 4) the Ultimate Editions are pretty cheap now. Wal-Mart has each one in the $5 bin, or they have the whole collection in one case (with the same 3 discs) for $14.99. Might be worth it if your looking for a better transfer on the original films.
