Quick question: Is the Disney Store doing pre-ordering with free lithographs for this DVD? Thanks.

I've split out the Aspect Ratio discussion into this this new thread as it was overwhelming the purpose of this thread, which is to discuss the new Sword in the Stone DVD specifically.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Has anyone received the double points for this releason on the DMR-site? I pre-ordered mine and received it on Saturday and entered the points on the site on Monday, but it just gave me 100pts. Do I need to send them an email in order to get the extra points?
I find you pompous, judgemental, and completely self-absorbed.........would you be my friend?

For anyone in the UK looking forward to the "All About Magic" episode of Disneyland...I'm sorry.
According to the BBFC, they passed it...at only 7 minutes 18 seconds. Hardly the 36-minute episode that was on the R1 GCC.
On the plus side, if you like insipid DVD games, Merlin's Magical Academy has FORTY-TWO minutes of game footage!
I don't have the new edition, so I don't know if "All About Magic" is full there or is the 7-minute excerpt like in the forthcoming UK disc. Either way, it's another sign for anyone who already has it to not buy it.

I can confirm that one for ya, Al. I picked up this new release today because I've never owned the film in any form of media and I can't find the Gold Collection disc anywhere. Imagine my disappointment when I found that the DisneyLand episode had indeed been cut down to seven minutes. It plays from the beginning of the episode until the end of Walt's introduction sketch.Escapay wrote:I don't have the new edition, so I don't know if "All About Magic" is full there or is the 7-minute excerpt like in the forthcoming UK disc. I've no idea why they would do this, but I suspect it's because Disney wanted the little 'uns to be able to watch a piece of "boring black-and-white TV" without making them sit through too much. Whatever the reason, it's probably just another instance of Disney catering to kids and forgetting about general animation fans (or any fans over the age of five, for that matter.) So yeah, yet another disappointing re-release from Disney. Shocking, I know.

Here's a review of the disc for anyone who's still undecided about "upgrading." It's not too in-depth (and the reviewer seems to think that the fullscreen presentation is the result of a pan-&-scan job, but whatever), but it should hold us off until the undoubtedly meatier UD review is posted.

Thanks, Pasta. As if I didn't already have more than enough reasons to not get this release, this one really is the nail in my "don't buy this" coffin.

Odd. Usually Colin Jacobson knows what he's talking about when it comes to the A/V section of his reviews. He does, however, acknowledge that there's the public enigma of what exactly the ratios should be for 60s/70s animated films.Pasta is Perfect with Pesto wrote:It's not too in-depth (and the reviewer seems to think that the fullscreen presentation is the result of a pan-&-scan job, but whatever), but it should hold us off until the undoubtedly meatier UD review is posted.

Does anyone know how long it usually takes the Disney Movie Club to put up new releases? I joined a few weeks ago getting Peter Pan, Robin Hood, Pirates 2 and The Ducktales Movie for $1.99 each. All I have to do is buy 5 dvds for $20 each within the next 2 years. I already have a list of movies to buy, and Sword In The Stone is one of them. But the special edition is not available on their site yet. Do they usually wait awhile before making them available?

That sucks that they didn't carry over the same version of the Disneyland ep that appeared on the Gold Collection DVD, and it doesn't make any sense. I wouldn't say that if it had been carried over that this release would warrant an "upgrade" for those who had the GC, but it would have been "slightly" better than the first version for those who enjoy games or slipcovers or just knowing they have the version with the "most", and therefore, if the episode was there in it's longer version, the new release would have been the better choice IMO for those who didn't own the DVD yet.
But instead, they have created a version with less, which would be a downgrade for anyone who would double-dip. And for those who didn't own the DVD yet, the better choice is now out of print.
Why they would not want to IMPROVE on the original, if even slightly, rather than go backwards, is beyond me.
Why not put a little effort into it to get more "double dip" sales? Surely one new game won't be enough to make most people who had the first buy twice.
It just doesn't make any sense.

Anyone ever heard of Buy.com?
They're anything but sold out.
http://www.buy.com/prod/sword-in-the-st ... 46701.html
The thing I like about it is the $10 off with Google for first-time purchases... it's how I got Aladdin for $12.95 (complete with slipcover).
Oh, and gotta love those n00b reviews of the people with HDTVs... come on people, ever heard of pillarboxing? That stretched picture really irritates me... they even do it for in-store displays...

Um...Colin Jacobson is nowhere near a "n00b with HDTV". He's a veteran DVD reviewer who's been on the 'net for years, as has DVD Movie Guide.drf wrote:Oh, and gotta love those n00b reviews of the people with HDTVs...
