The Sword In The Stone - My Early Pickup

Post by brownpuppy »

It's been a little while since I've been here, but I was able today to pick up my early copy of "The Sword In The Stone" 45th Anniversary Edition. Here's the picture with me and the real DVD....

Are there any good advertisements in there for upcoming Disney DVD's?

Have you watched the film yet, how does it look?

I'm excited to pick this one up because I don't yet own it and it's been a while since I've seen it, but I really love it.

Does the insert say anything about a re-release of Oliver & Company? or what animated classic is being re-released this fall? Thanks!

Well, Matt I don't like teasing anyone at all neither.
But I just wanted to show you what I got and to show what it will look like once you get it.

By the Way...About that Oliver and Company question, it will not be re-release. I checked the DVD and there was no announce ment about that film being re-release again. The only film that were announced in the Sneak Previews were Sleeping Beauty, 101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure, The Jungle Book 2, The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning and Tinker Bell.

That was all.

What dvd's are included in the "buy any 2, save $6 now" coupon stuck to the front of the slipcover? Can anyone make them out?

I'm just surprised you can still buy the GCC release (at least on Amazon and Buy.com), with movies like Robin Hood, Disney yanked the old version in advance so you could ONLY buy the stupid cropped version.

Shiny cover maybe, but I don't think it's any different quality-wise. I haven't seen the new one but the old one was pretty good quality for a GCC.
I was wondering about this, so I should hold onto my Gold Collection DVD then. The Gold one is also probably cheaper. I got mine for $11, the new one will probably be $17-$20 around here.

I added a bit in so you're not automatically lumping all the future owners of SITS in the "we only like the animated ratio" camp. :P
Jules wrote:Erm ... isn't the new release supposed to be open-matte? It says so on the website.
Jules, never trust Disney anymore.

I think it's safe to say the bonus features are not worth "wild", but if they threw in some kind of "Squirrel Attack!" game, it'd be wild!

Don't dope-dip. Double-dip occasionally, but not dope-dip. :P

Yes. You'll still have the "Disneyland: All About Magic" episode that apparently is a no-show on the new edition (given the fact that it isn't listed in the specs unless it's part of the enigmatic-and-annoying "and much more", which I don't think it is.)

Get the new edition only if you want a theatrical ratio version or if you're in desperate need for the gorram slipcover.

And if you don't already own it, I presume? I ask because here in Ireland, the old DVD is still freely available, and I don't yet own The Sword and the Stone.

The only thing new (and confirmed) is the Merlin's Magical Academy. Everything else from the GCC disc (bar the Disneyland episode, which is awaiting confirmation) is carried over.
