I think I said that in the Enchanted Tales thread but again,I think that if they"ll show Mulan in her pink dress (The one she was wearing when she went to the Matchmaker) insted of her work outift then little girls will love Mulan more.

But that's part of the problem again Ariel'sPrince. If Mulan can only be accepted into the Princess line by what clothes she is wearing, what does that say about the integrity of the Princess line in the first place?

What does it say about the character of Mulan, and what she actually does in her film? Nothing, that's what.

Again, you can see why that is open to critisism.

You may as well just have a Disney Bratz line, if that's the case.

I don't think people (Espically Disney fans) will more love her just because she has different cloths but little girls will because the only the thing they care about is the Princess's dress.
Why little girls like Cinderella and Aurora? because of their dresses,they never seen Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty and they don't even know Aurora's name,the only thing they care about is the dresses and like UmberllaFish said-the Enchanted Tales gold dress,the ballet dresses,the spring fair dresses,the Sleeping Beauty PE Jewels dresses,it's only a different dress,not a new art style or something like Spotlight Princesses or Flat Princesses.
Her cloths means nothing but sadly,that's the only thing that little girls cares about.

well I agree there, the princess brand only promotes shallow things like dressing up and jewelery and things like that. And they're all white. I have and always will be against the Princess brand. At least the way it is now.

Especially because the films to wich these characters belong are great and nothing like how this brand has portrayed and has dumbed them down.

And I think it's rediculous that characters like Pocahontas and Mulan are excluded because they're technically not princesses. As if real life princesses sit around all day and play dress up. Pocahontas and Mulan probaply have more in common with actual princesses than the others.

Funny story, crown princess Amalia of the Netherlands, shes like 5 years old now or something, recently had her first day of school. So the press was there and all. And I thought it was hilarious that she had a Disney Princess backpack. In interviews she's even said that when she grows up she wants to be a "princess". I hope her parents explain to her what that really means

as for Angelina, I'm still not sure about her. She always gives me a creepy vibe. But I respect her for the work she does.

Yes, that's funny Patrick, that Amalia doens't even realise she IS a princess and supposed to be queen one day. She will find out soon enough naturally. Probably she also thinks that it's a common thing for every family to have their picture taken by a host of photograpers regularly.

As for me, I would not be sorry if the 'princess line' was cancelled, because it's so shallow.

Well,she's 5 and also my parents's friends's daughter is at the same age and they both are the same about the Princesses like I said before.
Sadly,that the only thing they care about.
Disney is for everyone and their target audience is the entire family but you ask why Pocahontas ans Mulan are so underrated so I said that for the Disney fans and others the other Princesses's film are more popular and little girls don't like Pocahontas's and Mulan's dresses.
They watch Barbie films but they also heard about those Princesses everywhere so they buy their stuff.

I actually like the Princesses line and collect things fromit. I don't know much about the items aimed specifically for little kids though (clothing, etc), but things like figures or dolls or even clothing or houseware with the princesses I collect. But I also collect Mulan items. Of course the princesses line is marketed in a way to make the most profit. However, I must admit I like the fantasy of being a princess who dresses up in beautiful gowns and has a worry free and joyous life. My life is so very full of stress and work and worry that something like looking at my Princesses' collection gives me a nice dreamy feeling.

Same here. I love the idea of having all Disney Princesses in one place/collection, but I hate them being turned into shallow airheads who care only about "gowns and jewelery". It goes against everything each Disney Princess represented in each of their original films. Would Belle, Mulan and Cinderella really wear those jeweled dresses? I don't think so. Anastasia, Drizella and the Bimbettes? For sure.

Why it shows them in a wrong way? you don't think that Ariel will wear a gold dress? or Aurora will wear the Jewels dress? it's pretty cliparts,if you want cliparts of them out of their characters-once I saw a pencil box with Cinderella putting make up,Aurora put earings on her ears and Belle brush her hair and I couldn't stand those cliparts! it's nothing like them.

First of all Pocahontas and Mulan are official Disney Princesses (And also Giselle),TinkerBell was a princess but Disney realized that it's not the place for her and the Disney Fairies line is.
Esmeralda is "pushed" in the franchise sometimes (And not only this doll-Zizzlingers,books,a Princess CD I think and The Little Mermaid Karaoke) there's some other girls like Nala,Melody,Meg,Alice and even Maid Marian who are "pushed" into the line but I think it's because they didn't had enough Princess for sing alongs,CDs and etc. but now since they have Giselle,Tiana,Rapunzel and maybe Merida (I hope not because she's Pixar) so they don't need Melody,Meg,Esmeralda,Alice and the others anymore.

Reading between the lines ,I think what she's saying is "Look, there's a whole world out there. Full of terrible things, wonderful things and different traditions, viewpoints and values. And I won't let my children be brainwashed by the overtly marketed Disney Princesses, as they do nothing to show how wonderful the world actually is, but instead concentrate on dresses, jewelry and other superficial stuff, which I consider unimportant."

Even if that's true, she has said that she is not letting her children watch the movies, not that she is not letting them have Princess merchandise. As she never explicitly mentions the franchise itself, it's unlikely that that's what's at the front of her mind.

To that end, this thread has gone very off topic in that it is no longer related to Jolie's opinion regarding the actual movies, which someone brought up in relation to Tiana's ethnicity - there is no other connection to the topic that's supposed to be discussed - but more so because it's no longer related to the upcoming Princess and the Frog movie.

Back in 2002 and 2003,before Pocahontas and Mulan were added in 2004,Disney noticed that she's popular so they added her but they realized that it's not the place for her so the created the Fairies line for her.
You can see a few dolls of her,puzzels,books (For exmaple a how to draw Disney Princesses one) and other merchandise from the Princess line,she even had a Flat Princesses and I think even Spotlight Princesses cliparts,there was even a little TinkerBell doll (There was also an Alice one) but now it's part of the Fairies line insted.

Anyway, Tinker Bell was in the Princess line. They just took her out when they suddenly came to the conclusion that she's a fairy/pixie.


Anyway (again), I think steve is right. The article specifically says she doesn't let her kids watch the movies, not buy the plastic purses. That's what she's talking about, not the merchandise.
