Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice 20th Anniversary DVD!
Announced today that WB is going to release Beetlejuice 20th AE on DVD AND Blu-Ray! But that's not all! Although extras aren't announced yet, the DVD and Blu-Ray will include 3 episodes for the animated series! here are the links:

Yes! This was unofficially announced by WB long ago during one of their chats. For the DVD and BD to have taken this long, that means they must've done some extensive restoration work. I'm a little worried about it being called a Deluxe Edition, though. WB's Deluxe Editions are always single-disc affairs, and I was hoping for a 2-disc release for this film (even if the BD counterpart would've ended up being a single disc, anyway). Hopefully the supplements prove to be worthwhile (though the inclusion of three episodes from the series is very cool).

Thanks for letting us know! I haven't yet added Beetlejuice to my DVD library so this will be a great opportunity to do that. Can't wait to see what the new transfer looks like. I'm also eager to revisit the cartoon series, which I haven't seen since it aired.

Batman Begins, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Constantine are two-disc Deluxe Editions. And The Jazz Singer is a THREE-disc Deluxe Edition (as are a few movies that are two-disc sets plus the soundtrack). But the majority of DE's from Warner are single-disc, and given that Beetlejuice's SRP is $19.99, that pretty much means it's a single disc (Warner usually seems to use $20.97 for two-disc catalogue titles)Kelvin wrote:WB's Deluxe Editions are always single-disc affairs, and I was hoping for a 2-disc release for this film
Still, I agree that Beetlejuice should be a two-disc release.
It's interesting to note that both sites (DVDACtive and TVShowsonDVD) are announcing the title as if the three cartoons are the only things included. I checked DVDTimes, and like the other sites, they also believe that the three cartoons (A-Ha, Skeletons In The Closet, and Spooky Boo-tique) are ALL that will be included. I'm praying that everyone's wrong...

Holy Crap! I could have pooped my pants when I saw this. I can't imagine any DVD (re)release that would make me as happy as Beetlejuice. This definitly should be a 2-disc set. The DVD i have of it has absolutely no extras, not even a trailer if I remember right! Wow, I have been waiting so, so long for the decent DVD release that my favorite movie deserves. They must be re-releaseing this in support of The Nightmare Before Christmas.

I would call Blu ray a huge change.SwordInTheStone777 wrote:Nothing about this release is changed, except the lack of extras.

Other than it being on Blu Ray, there's nothing new, just WB making a quick buck, with all of there Deluxe/Special Editions. I can see this DVD failing to sell, there are a huge number of fans of Beetlejuice who wont buy this because of WB lack of interest in it, If Bonie and Cylde and Cool Hand Luke get a good treatments, why dosen't Beetlejuice get then?

Firstly because the film - how it looks and sounds is far and away the most important thing. Thus the Blu Ray upgrade is worth it alone. I dont think they are going for a double dip on just the DVD but as long as the Blu RAY is coming out they might as well reissue the DVD too.

Extras announced from the digitalbits.com:
"Speaking of which, we've got some details for you on Beetlejuice as well. The DVD (SRP $19.96) will feature the film fully remastered in anamorphic widescreen video, and will include Danny Elfman's score as a music-only track, the film's theatrical trailer and 3 episodes of the Beetlejuice animated series (A-Ha, Skeletons in the Closet and Spooky Boo-tique). The Blu-ray (SRP $34.99) will include all of the same, with video in 1080p high-def and audio in Dolby TrueHD 5.1 and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1."
Basically the Production Notes and Cast and Crew Filmographies are the only extras from the previous release that won't be included. Sadly, looks like there will be no documentary or featurettes.
