Disney's Lord of the Rings
animated-news.com has reported today that Disney plans to co-produce and release a series of films based on "The Chronicles of Narnia". The first should be released Christmas 2005.
I've been hoping for a "Chronicles of Pyrdain" film series, but "Narnia" could very well be Disney's Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings.

Defy Gravity...
Narnia
I have been hoping for a decent production of the full Chronicles! I remember there was a relatively good animated version of it back in the 70s or 80s. It differed greatly from the book of course, but was good nonetheless. Does anyone else remember this cartoon?

Yes I do, but I only saw part of it. Judging from your comparisons I'm assuming Disney's is going to be live action. To tell you the truth, I'm more looking forward to Abarat, another fabled work-in-progress from Disney. I think that story lends itself better to movies than the Narnia ones, but that's just me.
P.S. Prince Adam . . . you really scared me with that title!!!!

Re: Disney's Lord of the Rings
I've been wanting to see "Chronicles of Prydain" - in a non-bastardised form - for a long time now too. As much as I love The Black Cauldron as a film, it simply isn't what is written (neither was Lord of the Rings, I guess, but it was closer).Prince Adam wrote: I've been hoping for a "Chronciles of Pyrdain" series, but "Narnia" could very well be Disney's Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings.
As for the Narnia series, I alway liked the BBC productions of the late 1980s (I have fond memories of rushing home to watch them as a kid).
You can get that series here:

However, the problem I found with that series is that it wasn't complete (it did four of the seven novels). Hopefully Disney will do the smart thing and make all seven, rather than try and combine a couple.

I must have read the books a thousand times! I even named my cat Aslan.( probably fairly common eh!) sounds like good news to me...I loved 'The Silver Chair" especially! and Puddleglum the Marshwiggle!

Jules: You know the shows on TV?
Vincent: I don't watch TV.
Jules: Yeah, but, you are aware that there's an invention called television, and on this invention they show shows, right?

My favorite was The Magician's Nephew.
I remember the cartoon too, they played it on Disney Channel several times. I taped it once, and every so often I watch it.

Yes, this could very well be Disney's Lord of the Rings, if they go for a PG-13 I think. On a different note, it will be the same distributing/producing team that brought us Holes and is giving us Around thw World in Eighty Days: That's right, Disney/walden media. So it will probably be a PG.

Cheers,
JM

Man, I am so excited for these. I like the BBC versions a lot, and they'd be great if they were complete (but as Loomis pointed out, they aren't). They used to air on the Disney channel, so I find the series fitting for Disney. And they did so well with Holes, which was with Walden Media as well.
So now we will have a bid-budget production (I would assumed) and a complete series (I would hope).

I think it would be a fairly foolish idea on Disney's part to try filming all seven: The Magician's Nephew is a bit dodgy, A Horse And His Boy is pretty much unrelated and The Last Battle is both horribly evangelical and utterly umfilmable (Aslan's crucificion doesn't exactly spell family audience).
They could heavily adapt/rewrite them, but that would annoy the Lewis purists. What to do...

According to the latest scuttlebutt, Nicole Kidman will play the White Witch:
