Does anyone remember the series 'In a Heartbeat'
I often find myself surfing YouTube and getting all nostalgic with what people put up there. I honestly can't tell you how much I love YouTube!
Anyway, today brought me the memory of a Disney Channel television series called "In a Heartbeat". It was about high school students who were also EMTs. By day they lived in high school as cheerleaders, football players, rebel kids, etc. and by night they all got together and worked on the same EMS teams.
The entire series only ran for 21 episodes and Disney pulled it because a lot of parents were complaining that some of the trauma the kids were responding too were "scary" or "too realistic" for Disney.
This show used to air late at night; usually right before Vault Disney would begin.
Check out the cool intro to this show:

And possibly my favorite fan video ever made for a Disney show:

Lastly, check out some more fanvideos and stuff from "In a Heartbeat" :

I used to watch "In a Heartbeat"! I don't remember any particular storylines/episodes off the top of my head, but I do remember some of the characters. It wasn't my all-time favorite Disney Channel show, but it wasn't my all-time least favorite, either- I enjoyed watching it and would watch it again if it were still aired, but I don't think about it too often...

I never knew that this show was a premise based on a real EMS team. Apparently there is an EMS team in Connecticut who is made up of high schoolers. The show wasn't just about trauma....it was more about the relationships inbetween all the excitement.
I like to think of it as "Grey's Anatomy" or "Rescue Me" for teenagers.

I remember it. I liked it, as I recall, but a lot of that was because it had Christopher Ralph, aka Tobias from the misbegotten "Animorphs" TV show as the sexy yet troubled EMT. He was my middle school crush.

I found the intro to "Animorphs". Apparently Shawn Ashmore and Christopher Ralph were in both Animorphs and In a Heartbeat! lol. Check it out:

I totally don't remember Animorphs the tv series.....was it a long series? What channel did it air on? How far did they get in the storyline? Was it even close to the books?

It certainly didn't last long and was forgettable Disneyfella. I believe it aired on YTV here in Canada and it might have been an original Canadian program. That would explain why you may not be familiar with it.
Actually, justed looked this up on IMDB. It says Animorphs had 2 seasons with 26 episodes from 1998-2000. It was filmed in Toronto and was a Canadian/US production.

In the US it aired on Nickelodeon during their Saturday night "Snick" line-up.disneyfella wrote:What channel did it air on?
I don't really remember. Of course, I wasn't as into the books as everyone else was (I collected a few, but didn't read all of them).disneyfella wrote:How far did they get in the storyline?
The only think I remember that was different was that in the series, they would morph back and forth and retain their clothes, whereas in the books when you morph back, you'd have to wear something skintight (like biker shorts) or you'd morph back naked.disneyfella wrote:Was it even close to the books?
Both "Animorphs" and "In A Heartbeat" were shortlived shows that you normally don't expect a lot of people to know about, but are surprised when you find that they do, lol. I wish both would surface on DVD one of these days, but given Disney's attitudes towards older TV shows a DVD release for "In A Heartbeat" is unfortunately highly unlikely. At least with "Animorphs" there's that tiny glimmer of hope that it gets released in Canada and US buyers can import...

"Animorphs" as a TV series was a good effort, but not a very good show. It was a pretty adequate show. They jumped around a lot with the plot, in that it didn't follow the books' chronological order at all and unless an episode was a two-parter, none of them really had any relation to each other.
It was fairly well cast, for the most part, and they had a pretty good chemistry amongst the five leads. Ax in particular I think was pretty well done. The special effects I remember ranged from serviceable for a kid's TV show to pretty terrible. The CGI Visser Three they would use for close ups was pretty good, but any time they showed the entire upper body of an Andalite, it was a guy in a not-so-convincing costume. I have a few pics from the show on my computer that I'll upload later of the awful Visser Three full-body suit and the Hork-Bajir puppet, which looked half-way decent.
For obvious reasons, the battle morphs were used pretty infrequently. Most of the morphing was to solve some sort of an obstruction as opposed to fighting. Also, they had this over-arcing plot point of this disc that Elfangor gave Tobias in the first episode that I think was vaguely explained in the last episode, but for the life of me I don't know what it was.
Whew. I still have the episodes on VHS from when I taped them religiously. I should really put them on DVDs, but I'd wager the tape quality is abysmal. Here's hoping Escapay is right, and Canada someday gets the show on DVD.
Also, disneyfella, thanks for the PM! I can't respond to them for whatever reason, so I'll say it here
