Disney Holiday DVD Suggestion

Post by Tangela »

I wish Disney would release Mickey's Christmas Carol on DVD. I know they added "Carol" to "Mickey's Magical Christmas: Snowed in at the House of Mouse, but it was missing the best part, the opening credits featuring the song "Oh! What a Merry Christmas Day!

Now they should release the whole thing together with Santa's Workshop, Pluto's Christmas Tree and all the others.

I have never in my life seen a bad review made about "Mickey's Christmas Carol", It could be a big success!

I agree, it sounds like a good idea. The more Christmas specials, the better. I can never get enough of them around the holiday.

Couldn't agree more.
I was just about to order 'Snowed in' when I realized that 'Christmas Carol' was edited.
A Christmas tin would be wonderful.
There is something about those toons that always warm the cookies of my heart.
Could watch them any itme of year :P

Actually, themed sets like that would be great.
I know House of Villains has a Halloween theme, and there are stacks of individual specials (e.g. Winnie the Pooh), but I'd love to see a Christmas/other holiday compilation.

Here in Brazil and in Europe, Disney released "Countdown to Christmas", a collection of shorts with Christmas-related subjects. Although it's a shame they didn't include "Mickey's Christmas Carol", I was happy with the addition of Don Bluth's "The Small One". And best of all: all the shorts are presented in their original forms, with opening and closing credits!

We have that one here in Australia too (and in the UK as well, I believe).

Really should pick up that "Countdown to Christmas" one day...

It has some great toons in it including:
- The Prince and the Pauper (1990)
- The Art of Skiing (1941)
- Alpine Climbers (1936)
- Donald's Snow Fight (1942)
- Wynken, Blynken and Nod (1938)
- Winter Storage (1948)
- The Small One (1978)
The first and the last are the longest at 25 minutes each, but the last is the only direct 'Christmas' reference (being a biblical thing about a boy and his donkey...). Otherwise, it is a nice winter holiday themed DVD.

Actually, I might go and order that now :P
I've sold myself!

And Mickey's Christmas Carol too according to internet reports. I can't find the reference now, but one site quotes Maltin as saying something along the lines of "including all the remaining Mickey Mouse shorts until his last theatrical release in 1995" (which is The Runaway Brain).

The Countdown to Christmas release may have the sides of the Prince and the Pauper cropped to fit it into a 4:3 frame. I don't know for sure but the titles come uncomfortably close to the edge of the screen. (However this could just be due to overscan on the television).
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Sounds like there is going to be a hell of a lot of stuff on this upcoming tin, according to Internet reports. Really hoping they are true now! That one I'll definitely snap up when it is announced 9along with the War tin).
Haven't bought any Treasures yet (missed out the first time). Still waiting with the hope that they will be released locally, which could go either way.
Wound up ordering the Countdown disc regardless - somethng I'd been meaning to get for a while anyways.

I agree, though "Once Upon A Wintertime" has already been released on DVD as it's part of Melody Time, and "On Ice" was on Mickey Mouse In Living Color, and it's likely that "Donald's Snow Fight" will be on the Donald Duck Treasures Set, it would be nice to have them all on one disc to pop in at the holidays. My old VHS looks horrible from all the times I've watched it.
What would this wretched world be like without Disney?

They should release all the old Christmas specials like "Jiminy Cricket's Christmas" and "A Disney Christmas Gift". And definitely release "A Walt Disney Christmas"!
