Had a movie night with my friends last night.
Cloverfield - Cloverfield is my favorite type of horror movie, one that relies more on suspense and character interaction than massive amounts of Gore (for example, the scene where the bite victim dies is much more effective being shown in silhouette than it would have been if it was shown outright). It was a breath of fresh air in the toxic world of horror movies.
4.1/5
Juno - Clever writing and great performances from everyone involved made Juno, a movie with a very basic premise, a standout film. It was a great way to spend an hour and a half (well, three hours really since I saw it in theaters last December).

Iron Man
I caught the film on opening night and man am I ever happy I did. This is what a superhero movie needs to be. A fantastic mix of drama, action, romance and comedy; in fact I would say it is the most intentionally funny superhero flick I've ever seen. The acting was phenomenal, I would even guess that Robert Downey Jr could get an a few nominations come award season (ala Johnny Depp in PotC 1 and 2) his performance was that could.
And here's a note to all who have yet to see the movie, stay till the end of the credits. An additional scene featuring a big name, and uncredited, actor as a prominent member of the Marvel Universe mythology makes an appearance to set up a sequel/spin-off movie.

Unfortunately its from the ULTIMATE Marvel Universe. Tits. I knew this would happen. Creating the Ultimate Marvel books was the biggest mistake Marvel ever made - because now there is no definitive canon or character.

I finally saw Stardust (my HD DVD) and all I can say is what a wonderful film. I've not seen Enchanted but I doubt if can be half as appealing as this modern day masterpiece.
What I liked about Stardust is that it still had the guts to actually include some scares (for young children, of course). Now, when was the last time you can remember that in a filmed fairytale type film?
Shame hardly anyone saw it at the cinema.
I do have to ask myself, what do the public want when films like this linger on the cusp of obscurity, yet films like "Are We Done Yet?", "P.S. I Love You" and "Fred Claus" do better.
I'm feelings depressed now. I'm going to buy some ice cream.

I finally got around to watch Stardust, and I'm so glad I did. I been looking at this dvd on my shelf for the past few weeks and friday I finally decided to watch it. From start to finish, this film was simply amazing, and based off the previews I would have never guessed that. I sure that's one of the main reasons it did so poorly at the box office. Anyway, I just finished watching it for the thrid time and I highly recommend it.

The Golden Compass
I don't see why everyone is harping on about how this isn't a good film. It might be just me, but I thought it was actually really good. Good acting, great SFX and great fighting scenes. I'd give it 4 out of 5 stars.
