39th Annual Dove Awards - Wednesday 4/23

Post by AwallaceUNC »

The 39th Annual Dove Awards will air live from Nashville on the Gospel Music Channel (GMC) this Wednesday Night (April 23rd) at 8:00 pm (Eastern Time). The Dove Awards are very similar to the Grammy Awards, only focused on Contemporary Christian Music and Gospel Music. The awards show will be re-aired twice immediately following its conclusion and will also be broadcast live on XM Satellite Radio 32 "The Message."

The headlining event for this year is a group performance by past "American Idol" contestants with roots or a current record deal in the Christian Music field (including Jordin Sparks, Mandisa, Phil Stacey, and Chris Sligh). The "Idol" contestants will join Amy Grant for a medley tribute to Michael W. Smith, who is celebrating his 25th year in the music industry.

Amy Grant is up for the Female Vocalist of the Year award. Surprisingly, she has never won in this category before, despite having won 21 Dove Awards in other categories.

Among the featured performers and presenters are:

Casting Crowns
Steven Curtis Chapman
The Clark Sisters
Charlie Daniels
Kirk Franklin
Amy Grant
Natalie Grant
Mark Lowry
Mandisa
Sandi Patty
Point Of Grace with Cindy Morgan
Mac Powell of Third Day
Mark Schultz
Aaron Shust
Skillet
Chris Sligh
Ricky Skaggs and The Whites
Michael W. Smith
Jordin Sparks
Phil Stacey
Switchfoot
TobyMac
Chris Tomlin
Wynonna

In addition, GMC will air an all-day marathon of "Best of the Doves" specials, each one dedicated to a particular artist and his/her/their performances on the Dove Awards. Among the artists featured will be Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, Whitney Houston, BeBe and CeCe Winans, Kirk Franklin, Blind Boys of Alabama, Yolanda Adams, Third Day, Jars of Clay and Dolly Parton.

Thanks for the news, Aaron!

I'll probably only watch Amy singing, as she's the only Christian artist I'm in to.

When I read the thread title, I immediately thought "Oh wow, they have awards for soap?", followed by "Or maybe it's awards for really rich chocolate!" I got all excited, then I click on the thread and find out it's contemporary Christian and gospel music. :P
