Original Or Enhanced Colours?

Post by rodis »

Obviously the DVD version always has bold, vibrant (sometimes too vibrant) colours while the original has softer, brighter colours...
Naturally I would say "the DVD version" but I was watching the VHS versions of The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast the other day and couldn't help but miss those wonderful, natural colours. Sure, you can't possibly compare the pan & scan, VHS quality to the superbly-looking DVD version but something about the original colours just looks more natural and 'calmer'.

Yeah "The Little Mermaid" DVD release was of course a crappy one with a horrible transfer but you can still see the considerable change in the colours. In Beauty and the Beast it's even more apparent.

I'm sorry. It's my favourite movie, but I hate the new version of Beauty and the Beast.

I watch the trailers and TV spots from 1991, and I remember how much I loved this film-the warmth and depth of the colours.
I remember Belle's dark hair, the Beast's brown fur (yes-not tan, BROWN), and how dark and murky the West Wing was.

My classic is ruined.

OK, not ruined, but tampered with.

I consider myself as the "oddball" of the group, because I personally love the brighter, clearer restorations and I'm glad they do that to the movies.

I noticed that too. I hate the way they 'brightened up' the West Wing . . . defeats the purpose. And it's not exactly on topic, but them new Lion King crocodiles . . .
edit: 100th post! What does that make me?

I hate the "enhanced" colours. I want the REAL Beauty & The Beast on DVD, damn it!

The fact that now we can clearly already see what the Beast looks like before Belle asks him to come into the light so she can see him better... completely ruins the suspense of the scene! Arrghh!

I want the movies I fell in love with in theatres... the same versions I own on VHS... I want these preserved on DVD. With only one change... widescreen. That's it. No stupid new songs, nothing re-animated, nothing "restored". I don't trust Disney anymore... restore is just "code" for destroy.
