If you break down the one's in my Fantasia Anthology, which I acquired when I found it at a video store for $15, then I have 23 (which happens to be my age). I started in 2006 when The Little Mermaid first came out. After that I started building my collection slowly but surely. I'm mostly concentrating on the animated classics before moving on to focusing on the others.

Scaps, do Dimension Films have any affiliation with Disney? I remember seeing Spy Kids about six years ago, and I never considered it a Disney film. Well ... it's released under neither the Walt Disney Pictures, Touchstone Pictures, Hollywood Pictures or Miramax Films banner, so it stands to reason. Yet, I'm sure at times I've seen it (officially) grouped with Disney entertainment. Why is this?

Dimension Films is sort of like a sub-set to Miramax Films. Every Dimension film is distrbuted by Buena Vista Home Entertainment (just check out the Scream movies). It seems weird that a lot of horror movies come from Disney, but I suppose that's why they have the Dimension Films banner.
In short, yes Dimension Films do count as part of the Disney film library just like Touchstone, Hollywood, Miramax, etc. does.

Yes and no.disneyfella wrote:Dimension Films is sort of like a sub-set to Miramax Films. Every Dimension film is distrbuted by Buena Vista Home Entertainment (just check out the Scream movies). In short, yes Dimension Films do count as part of the Disney film library just like Touchstone, Hollywood, Miramax, etc. does.
Fella's right in that Dimension is the subset of Miramax, and that every Dimension film (up until October 2005) was distributed by BVHE.
But the banner/label was created and wholly owned by the Weinsteins, and when they left Miramax, they took the Dimension label with them to their new company (appropriately titled: The Weinstein Company).
That's why Disney suddenly brought back their "Hollywood Pictures" banner. They used to scuttle their crappy horror films to Dimension, but since Bob & Harvey took it when they left, they had to bring back HP.
Disney still has distribution rights for Dimension films pre-October 2005, but any that came after it (like 1408 and The Mist) are distributed theatrically by Dimension & MGM, and in home video by Weinstein Company & Genius Products.
Because the Spy Kids films are one of the few family-friendly films (perhaps the only family-friendly films) in the Dimension catalogue.Jules wrote:Yet, I'm sure at times I've seen it (officially) grouped with Disney entertainment. Why is this?
I've seen all three movies on DC several times, and even though I have the DVDs, I find it more fun to watch the films with commercial breaks.Panfan wrote:It was on Disney Channel last night and this afternoon.
Not anymore, see my explanation above, quilly.quilly wrote:Why? Let's see!!! Disney is the holding company who owns all the shares, so it's theirs!!!!
I have to wonder if TWC/GP were to release a new version of Spy Kids, would quilly buy it even if it's not under a Disney distribution arm anymore?Barbossa wrote:Uh-oh, now reyquila will want to buy every Dimension film to add to his collection
(Probably. Heck, I'd buy a new edition of Spy Kids, I hate the barebones disc! Where's the SE, dammit???)

Now I'm itching to watch all three, so I may try to get the first one from the library or something!
