A Wal-Mart policy everyone should know about

Post by thegame24 »

The reason I am making this thread is because every time I tell someone about this policy they usually do not know about it (including the Wal-mart cashiers who should be trained to do this in the first place). At the bottom of the little shelf where you write your checks it is posted that if something rings up more than what the shelf tag says you get $3 off your total or if the item is under $3 it's free. Whenever this happens to me or someone in my family and we tell the cashier they are always like what? and we point it out to them on the shelf and they have to call someone else. This happened to me today.

I found the Battle Armor Cobra Commander figure today at Wal-mart. They still had the price tags up for $5.44. I took it up front and it rang up $6.84 so I told the cashier and she put it in for $5.44. Then I pointed out the little sign that when something rings up wrong you get $3.00 off or if the item is under $3.00 it's free and she didn't know how to take it off which didn't surprise me because they always act like they don't know what you're talking about until you point it out to them (if Wal-Mart is going to have this policy why don't they train their workers how to do it?). Anyway she went over to two other girls that were standing there and the one was like "is it on OUR registers?" and I told her yes and pointed it out. Then the other one came over to take it off but took it off of the $6.84 price and I told her it was suppose to be taken off the $5.44 since that is what the tag said and she tried to tell me it was $3.00 off of whatever it rang up. I told her that is not true because if someone was buying a higher price item that was ringing up $20 more they would not just give them the $3 off so she finally took it off the $5.44 so I ended up getting it for $2.61 after tax.

I avoid our Wal-Marts at all costs, but whenever I'm in there next time I'll keep this in mind. I haven't heard about it or seen the sign before.

I was a Walmart cashier for a while and the cashiers do know about it but we are told to only give the $3 off if the customer mentions it.

edit: Also, with this policy, if you are getting more than one of the item that rings wrong then you only get $3.00 taken off of one of them. You just get the others at the correct price. So if you get 3 of something that is supposed to be $2.69 and it rings at $3.69 then you would get one free and the other two at $2.69.

I'm just mentioning that cause I've had customers who think that they get $3 taken off all of them.

I work at Wal Mart and have never heard of this policy (though, I'm not a cashier, so I don't know if would even be told it). I do know that at the store I work at if something rings in for under the actual price you get it for that price. Last December we had a lady come in and buy new coats for her kids (she bought the same coat for both of them) and they rang up for a penny each. She was nice enough to point this out to the cashier, who called the manager who said you get it for what it rings in at, so she got both coats for a penny each. This was immediately followed by the manager going back to the kids department and taking all of the coats of the same design off the shelf.

I just happened to be doing a carry out for a customer at the time, and overheard this going on. I've never been so lucky as to have this happen to me.

Because training employees does this thing called cost money...and guess who would paty for the training? of 1.6 million employees? That's right! You. But guess what? Wal-Mart believes is Always Low Prices, no matter what costs, corners or anything that stands in our way. So therefore, their employees are terained by videos. Period.
