Quality Movie / DVD

Post by Jordan »

Hey you guys.

I had a question for you, I don't know if it has already been asked...
According to you, what Disney DVD is the best if you count both the movie quality along with the DVD features ? For ex, does your favorite Disney movie has a really bad DVD set or does a movie that you don't like that much has a dazzling 2-disc set.
I hop you'll undersand the question :-)

As for me, I'd say Snow White 'cause it's a masterpiece and a wonderful movie and the Platinum DVD is just great. If I had to choose a Disney classic that I don't like that much and that has a 2-disc edition, I think I'd say Pocahontas, which is to be released as a Masterpiece Edition, 'cause I don't think the movie is good and I certainly not think it deserve a Masterpiece Edition, 'cause for that, the movie must a a masterpiece, right ? :D

:)

So far, it's probably a toss-up b/w Snow White and TLK. Snow White rules over most DVDs (not just Disney) for features, but TLK has great sound, packing, etc.. and both movies are great. But there are a few other good ones too... all the 'slip-cover' 2-Disc releases are contenders, IMO.

I really like the Snow White and Beauty and the Beast sets. I think it is cool how Beauty...included the work in progress version of the movie.

I don't think there is a movie that doesn't deserve the big 2 disc special edition treatment. I think if I am going to buy the movie, I would prefer to have all the special features instead of a standard movie-only release. So as much as I loathe Pocahontas, I want it to have the Masterpiece edition treatment.

Now, I would like The Rescuers Down Under, The Black Cauldron, Robin Hood, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Mulan, The Great Mouse Detective and Peter Pan

I'll say Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, since the quality was excellent for such an old film, and the extras were great. It was definately the best DVD released so far.

i would have to say either snow white or the atlantis collector's edition. the first is a no brainer, the movie was digitized and presented in pristine digital splendor with more special features tahn any other dvd released up until that time. the second was such a huge suprise for me. because of the newness of the film, it has zero flaws obviously, but the presentation of the special features have some of the best work ever on the "making of" disney segments in history. played together there is a 2 hour documentary about the making of the film which is extremely interesting and will give you the most info at the same time. i've learned more from that dvd than any other ones combined about the process of making an animated film.

The Best DVD Out There I think is The Lion King.

In my mind, two movies and DVD which are underrated but count as classics in my mind are Atlantis: The Lost Empire (ATLE) and The Emperor's New Groove (TENG).

Both films are visually striking, and have story elements that Disney tends not to use (ATLE was darker, Mike "Hellboy" Mignola inspired, and had a Verne-esque adventure spirit to it) and TENG was so off the wall in terms of comedy, that I could not help but like it.

However, it is their DVD presentation which is truly astounding. TENG - the Ultimate Groove version - has pretty much everything you could want on a DVD. Audio commentary, making ofs to die for, music videos and that is jst disc one. Really top notch effort, with only one bit of fluff (the Set Top Game, but that is nothing compared to the current amount of games on a DisneyDVD).The only thing I can say about the TENG DVD was that it did not include any sunstantial reference to the original movie filmed and abandoned, the far more serious one (what was it called again - something about a sun?).

The ATLE DVD is about as close to a perfect Disney DVD as you can get. Audio and Visual commentaires (a first for Disney at the time); and the amount of documentary footage with a fantastic navigation system, you really couldn't ask for much more. Really dig this one.

The Lion King is definately the best DVD and movie. We've had a very nice DTS-track in the Netherlands. The Dutch spoken version of the film is also very good.
Disney's musical Tarzan. Coming to Holland 2007.

Definitely Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Excellent restoration and the type of supplements and menus I wish every Disney film received. I don't think we'll ever get a DVD release better than this, but I think (or, rather, hope) that Cinderella will come close if not equal to it. All of Disney's 2-Disc sets, though, are overall excellent packages (even weaker supplement ones like Alice, Lion King, and Nemo).
