A) The Prince looks like a cross of Eric, Jim Hawkins, and a bit of Gaston. So he looks a little obnoxious. At least, to me.

B) I like Rapunzel's design. It's too bad this isn't going to be animated. :(

C) Growing up, this was the version I heard:

Once upon a time, a witch stole a child from her loving poor parents. The witch takes the little girl to a tall, bleak tower where she is doomed to live her entire life. One day, after many years, a Prince came to the tower. He meet the girl and called, "Rapunzel, Rapunzel! Let down your golden hair!". Thus after she let her hair spill out of the window, the prince climbed up. This continued for a few days until the witch found the Prince calling to Rapunzel. She stopped the prince and then cut Rapunzel's hair.

Intrestingly enough, I don't remember the ending. Maybe the witch let her free, or Rapunzel escaped? I did read a Barbie book, my little sister owned (one of the old ones that used actual Barbie dolls in the illustrations), and the witch let her free and blinded the Prince. They wandered around for years until the found each other by Rapunzel singing. So happy, the Prince cried tears of joy and he could see again. Then they live their happily ever after.

Now I have to see if their's a Rapunzel story in my Grimms Brothers book. I'd like to read the original version.

Using that site that Ariel'sprince found (here), I made a few stills. I believe they're concept art for the background and scenery, probably from the beginning where they show her hair all over the place (if Jim Hill's explanation is still accurate). They're very LQ and blurry, but I tried to crop them properly, and rather than being at an angle, they're a lot more "in-place", so to speak. ;)

This one looks sorta like a castle in the top left, and perhaps a beach on the bottom right? The center is obviously some sort of body of water.

To me, this one looks like a bridge, with a castle in the distance.

20 to 30 year old male - A young man of large physical stature, Bastion is - earthbound – selfless – self deprecating – intelligent – not earnest or forced – humble – loyal – just – warm – caring – comedy comes from underneath, not on top. UmbrellaFish>I'd have to check my fairy tale book too, but I believe the one you remember and read in the Barbie book is very close to the original tale.

From what I remember. The witch discovered Rapunzel had allowed the prince into the tower. She cut Rapunzel's hair and banished her from the tower and into a wasteland. The prince returns and calls to her and the braid comes down, he climbs it to discover the witch there. Some stories have him jumping out of the tower on purpose in a clear act of attempted suicide and others say the witch pushed him or simply let go of the braid before he could climb in. He falls into a patch of rose bushes where the thorns blind him. He Rapunzel was pregnant with his child (sometimes I read twins) and gave birth alone. She raised her child(ren) in the wasteland. For years the prince searches for her and finally finding her, her tears bring back his sight. They return to his kingdom. And they life happily ever after. I don't ever remember reading if the prince ever gets revenge on the witch or not.

I really need to buy Fairy Tale Theater. They did a lot of justice to the original tales. I remember the Rapunzel one quite well. Hey, I found it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5k94h3_-vdo

I enjoy that there is finally some new concept art, but when will there be any news about the new plot?

The only thing about Rapunzel's concept art that's similar to Ariel is the hair. She has Pocahontas' face, Nani's body, Snow White's dress and Ariel's hair [shape]. Either way, I doubt that's what it'll turn out looking like in 3D. 3D rarely looks that developed.

Sorry you've been ignored, but the person who posted that (veu) didn't give a link. I guess you could e-mail Disney to ask or just wait until veu shows up again.
And that means the previous, original, cheery tower and lush environment still fits whether the witch is the evil villain or...well, she was always the villain!
True. But that's going under the presumption that they haven't altered the witch or her motivation. Now that I think of it though, the lush environment actually gives the witch a more evil subtlety (along the lines of Ursula, who everyone knows I love best out of all the villainesses). She appears loving and kind, but that's all just a facade for an extremely controlling nature.

You know, even though I love villainesses for the most part, sometimes I wish they would create a few female figures to counterbalance the whole "mother is evil" thing that appears so often (which Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty do, I guess).

Thanks,Vermin Friends :D those concept arts are great :D.
Siren and Umbrellafish-thanks for explaining and for that fairy tale theather (they have a Sleeping Beauty version? I know that there's a Little Mermaid one, also about their Rapunzel version-the beginning is too long, and the parts with Rapunzel were shorter (and when he Rapunzel had time to get pragment?) and the bloode from the prince's eyes was groose),acorrding to Wikipedia-He meets a few times and they plan to escape but the witch notice that she's pargement and finds out about the prince and she banish Rapunzel to a wasteland and cut her hair, she trick the prince who climbs the braid and she pushes him and make him blind, after years he search her while she raised the children,he heard her singing when she brought water (he also heard her singing when he came to the tower) and his tears brought back his sight and they went to his castle,Umberllafish-You read that in a Barbie book? there wasn't a Barbie version of Rapunzel with a dargon and she had a paintbrush that helped her escape from the tower and meet the Prince or something like that?.

So has it been complete and utterly confirmed that Rapunzel's design has gone back to the drawing board? I really loved the design on the demo video... it'd be such a shame to throw that creation out! Coupled with those pics of Bastion, they'd make the cutest (non-canine) Disney couple yet!

I didnt think it was the design that compleatly changed, it was the story that was thought out again, hence it going from 'Rapunzel Unbraided' to 'Rapunzel'. I could be wrong though.

Does anyone know who is doing the music for this movie ? Is it Alan Menken ? I sure hope it is, anyway.

Here is her wiki page :

Jeanine Tesori (formerly known as Jeanine Levenson) is a composer of musicals. She is perhaps best known for the Broadway musical Thoroughly Modern Millie; she composed eleven new songs for the show and added them to three from the movie version; four previously written songs from the 1920s were also added to the musical's score. She also composed the music for the Broadway musical Caroline, or Change, with lyrics by Tony Kushner. She contributed music to the 1998 Broadway production of William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. She also composed an off-Broadway musical, Violet.

In 2006, she collaborated once again with Tony Kushner, composing new music for his translation of Brecht's Mother Courage and Her Children, which was produced as part of the Public Theater's Shakespeare in the Park season.

In addition to her work as a composer, Tesori has also served as an arranger, conductor, and musician (usually a pianist). She wrote the dance arrangements and served as associate conductor for the Broadway musical The Secret Garden. She also served as associate conductor for The Who's Tommy on Broadway. Other Broadway arranging credits include dance arrangements for How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Dream, and The Sound of Music (for which she also arranged incidental music); vocal arrangements for Thoroughly Modern Millie; and arrangements for Swing!.

She is also working on songs for the new animated film from Walt Disney Pictures entitled Rapunzel, as well as a musical version of the DreamWorks film Shrek.

Shes certainly got loads of experience! Lots of theatre work. Its funny that shes gone from that to do TLM: AB and Rapunzel. I hope shes good anyway!

And she's doing Ariel's Beginning? I'm honored.

As for the old design you posted yukitora, it could easily change. Maybe it's just me, but I find the entire design comical instead of 'classic.' Besides the human people she's been related to (Julie Mayer from Desperate Housewives and Kira from Reba), she also looks like the girl from Cats Don't Dance all grown up. I want to be able to take her more seriously than that.
