This past weekend, I got the DVD of "Enchanted" and it's very good, and sadly, it's in a full screen format. It is better than the wide screen if you want to get the wide screen or maybe a blu-ray release since anyone who doesn't have a blu-ray player or the PS3.

I enjoyed the film and it was great! :D

I was mentioned on that thread that I was burning a copy from torrent, so I said forget it! I prefer a better copy, but not the torrent copy. I changed my mind.

Disney's Enchanted

Post by Disney Duster »

I bought the DVD at Target, I made my licensed friend take me there Friday. I had to look for the bonus disc, and found it in the back behind bonus-less versions! So really look for it, you can only tell by seeing the red and white Target bonus disc sticker or remove the slipcover to see the disc attached to the back.

Why did you say it was sad in full screen, if you think it's better than wide screen? Why didn't you get the wide screen version?

I went to Target yesterday to get one with a bonus disc and they had it. But there was one problem. It was 20 bucks. Not my idea of a bargain. Plus I already own the movie. I bought it at Circuit City before I knew about the bonus disc. Ugh. So I didn't get it. :(
If the Blu-Ray disc does have all the same features maybe I'll buy that with my coupon, even if I don't have a Blu-Ray player. Then I can let it sit in the packaging 'til the day I get one.

An animator for Enchanted said, "Technically, the most challenging thing to shoot was the finale, on the outside of the Woolworth Building."
I believe the King & Queen's ball was also in the Woolworth Building.

UMBRELLAFISH, I already asked, where did you find this cover and is there a bigger version I can see?

The Blu-ray has one more bonus feature than the DVD, the D-Files, a game where you watch the movie but a special question pops up at certain times and if you guess it correctly, you get special bonuses like videos and discussions with filmakers and actors about your correct answer. It's all about the references the scenes make to other Disney classics. Don't forget to look for the Easter Egg of the "Ever Ever After" Music Video, that's on the DVD and Blu-ray, too.

The Target bonus may appear on a lter DVD, but it's such a good bonus feature no one thinks it's worth it to pass up! You may be able to be sneaky and return the DVD you already bought...or not be sneaky and just return to the original store like a normal person, after you make sure you get that bonus before it disappears!

It was crazy just for me to get a hold of the Target bonus disc... and the widescreen DVD for that matter. Apparently, at Target, they had a lot more fullscreen DVDs than the widescreen and I cant drive so I rely on mom for this sort of thing. So, the first time around, she picks the DVD up near the register. Cool, ok? I'm thinking "Yay bonus disc :D". Get home, actually look at it ... FULLSCREEN. Forgivable. Just take it back. A week later, I'm at school, mom buys it again. Now, take this in mind, my mom sometimes seems to only run on 2 brain cells at times... and I nagged her like 20 times the day before to remember widescreen. She was talking on her phone when she grabbed another copy. Guess what? Fullscreen. I got a little mad of course. Mostly because I was worried about how long that extra disc would be around... Finally, she found a widescreen DVD w/ extra disc. Sheesh.

The bonus disc was worth the frustration... but I find it incredibly stupid how they just couldn't stick it on the original DVD. >.< I'm still wondering the logic behind the ocean of fullscreen DVDs in that store...

My DVD finially came today, and I am thrilled to bits with it! I fell in love with the 'enchanting' movie all over again, and found the bonus disc, just plain wonderful! Why on earth they only have it as a bonus disc is beyond me.

From watching the 1/2 hour commentary, I loved seeing how Disney really did go back to the beginning for this movie; with in depth live action refrences for the animators, going back to see how Disney created Mary Poppins and such for inspiration for this movie. It was a really wonderful documentary, one of Disney's best I think. I must confess that I dont 100% love the really, really long and involved 'making-of's'; I can find them a bit dull and sometimes too in-depth to follow. I know I'm probably on my own with this, but it's just what I think. So 'A New Classic Comes True' was perfect for me.

What really did bug me was the almost promo spot for the bluray release; was there any need to show us what wasnt included on the DVD ? ! It was almost like, "Go and buy it because you will miss out big time". Still, thats typical Disney for you.

Anywho, I LOVED the DVD and 'A New Classic Comes True'. 100% recomendation to anyone, and I really think you should get it Ariel's Prince !

It could very well be because no one wants the fullscreen version, they're all buying widescreen! But the store stocked up a lot on both (or as many as they were given, if they don't have a choice), not knowing which would be bought more.

So true. And it wasn't as if Disney didn't have space on the DVD. This is one reason why I hate store-exclusive bonus discs: perfectly good bonus material that SHOULD be on a release gets excluded so that Store XYZ gets your money instead of Store MNO. And yet, I love store-exclusive bonus discs because they offer great bonus material that isn't on the general release, which can be somewhat lacking (Enchanted and POTC3 are great examples).
Astera121 wrote:I'm still wondering the logic behind the ocean of fullscreen DVDs in that store...
Because there are REALLY STUPID customers who insist on fullscreen. Usually they have the pathetic excuse of "fill my square TV screen, no more black bars! Cut off the sides of the picture!"

Of course, I'm not trying to make every 4:3 television owner sound stupid since our family still has them (I have no intention of buying a 16:9 television until I buy a Blu-Ray player, which won't be for another year or two). Just the ones who always say "fill my screen, no black bars, director's vision be damned!"

Also, we can blame Wal-Mart, who caters to those fullscreen ignoramuses and is a major driving force in making studios waste money producing pan-and-scan versions for DVD. Target wasn't as huge an offender of fullscreen DVDs. In DVD's early years Target would stock both wide and fullscreen, and when the title became an evergreen (you know, the DVD that's always in the $13.72/$9.44/$7.50 sections), they'd stock the widescreen only. Now they've followed Wal-Mart's example and stock more fullscreen for the evergreens than widescreen. And they'll even make the fullscreen one cheaper. Grrr.

But yeah, there's always gonna be more copies of fullscreen than anything because the stores are still stupidly catering to the equally stupid customers who don't want black bars and don't understand why they're there in the first place.

And Mike's also correct with his reasoning. There are more and more people that are learning that widescreen is better and so they choose to buy it over the fullscreen version. Still, I cringe whenever I'm in a DVD/video section of a store and hear a stupid employee try to explain to an equally stupid customer about what fullscreen/widescreen actually are...and get it wrong.

Example: (and a real conversation I've heard before...)

Customer: Should I get this movie in widescreen or fullscreen? I'm so confused!
Employee: What kind of TV do you have?
Customer: Huh?
Employee: Is it a rectangle or a squre?
Customer: It's a square.
Employee: Okay, you've got a normal TV Then you'll want fullscreen. Widescreen DVDs only play on widescreen TVs.
(I come up)
Albert: You've got to be frickin' kidding me! They actually let you work in this department?
Employee: Huh?
Albert: (long and drawn out explanation about widescreen versus pan and scan, matting for theatres, and standard TVs versus widescreen TVs.)
Customer: Oh...so which one fills my screen again? I just don't want any black bars, I hate them.
Albert: ...
(I walk away, frustrated.)

 Ariel's Prince! Tut tut tut .. .. .. Queen Narissa will get you if you are not careful !

What did you guys think of the alternate opening to the movie ? I wasnt too keen on it myself, and am glad they chose the opening they did. Although it would have been cool to have the same titles as Snow White.

The Snow White thing was neat (notice they didn't change the dwarfs). But making the book an actual prop like the did with the old storybook openings would have been even better.
