Aladdin Sequels on DVD...?

Post by lilscoy »

Hey everybody. I'm really getting excited for the Aladdin special edition DVD that's coming out soon. I was wondering about the sequels. Do you think that Disney will release the two sequels on dvd? If they did, I'm not sure that they would get the treatment that they gave to Lion King 1 1/2 and the soon-to-be-released Lion King II special edition. But I just wonder if they'll release them at all.
Actually this brings up another question. Do you think Disney will also try to use the hype to bring out the Aladdin TV Show on dvd? I'm not sure if there would be enough of a following to do this. But I thought about this also for the Little Mermaid release next year. Do you think they would try to re-visit that TV series on dvd? Anyway, just wondering what you guys thought...

If this topic has already been posted, sorry for bringing it up again... :)

Aladdin Sequels On DVD

Post by Disney Guru »

Yes I would love to see all of the Aladdin Sequels on dVD! Plus the Aladdin TV Show for those of you who don't remember the Aladdin Sequels here are descriptions!

Return To Jafar-Return of Jafar is a spin-off from the television Aladdin cartoon series, which was a spin-off of the hit Disney animated movie. — All Movie Guide

Aladdin King Of Thieves- In Disney's second straight-to-video sequel to Aladdin, Aladdin (voice of Scott Weinger) and Princess Jasmine (voice of Linda Larkin) have finally decided to marry, but when the big day finally arrives, the ceremony is thrown into chaos by the unexpected arrival of the Forty Thieves, who are searching for the enchanted Hand of Midas, a charm that will turn all it touches into gold. Aladdin makes the shocking discovery that his father (voice of John Rhys-Davies), long believed dead, is actually the leader of this infamous band of thieves, and when his father falls into peril, Aladdin must rescue him — with the genie of the lamp (voice of Robin Williams) on hand to help. Robin Williams, whose voice work was considered a key factor in the success of the original Aladdin, returned to the franchise for this film after bowing out of the first sequel, The Return of Jafar, due to a financial dispute (in The Return of Jafar, the genie was voiced by Dan Castellaneta). — Mark Deming

These were great movies of yesteryear! It would be great if they all would be released on DVD!

It's guaranteed that Disney is going to release the sequels on DVD in Region 1 shorty after the release of Aladdin - it'll follow the schedule of the last two Platinum Editions and their sequels most likely. I expect Return of Jafar in January 2005, and King of Thieves perhaps in April 2005.

As for the TV series, I'd like nothing more than to see it on DVD sometime soon. But there has been no buzz concerning it thus far.

It will probably be similar to how they're releasing The Lion King 1 1/2 and Simba's Pride - following the release of the Lion King on DVD. After all, it is free publicity on the coattail of all the hype surrounding the big-name original and they will probably be promoting it as 'complete your trilogy' as they are now with The Lion King series.

I think this was the same tact taken with Beauty and the Beast and its 'sequels'.

Yup, and both Beauty and the Beast "midquels" got released as "Special Editions" shortly afterwards as well.

If you can't wait for the SEs to come out, you can get King of Thieves from the UKor GermanyRIGHT NOW! (If you have a region-free player of course).

I might wait for the SEs, but I must say I DO like all the related Aladdin spin-offs. Particualrly the TV series, which I think did a great job of "further adventures" without undermining the original.

I don't see the TV show being released on DVD in the near future, but the sequels will almost definitely come out on Special Edition DVDs (Hopefully with slip covers).

This is an animated trilogy that I would sink my teeth into. As for the Beauty & The Beast I only bought the original & Lion King I have the original & LK 1 1/2 but will not buy Simba's Pride. I seriously want all 3 Aladdins & hope they do all of them justice. A box like they did for BATB would be nice but as long as they do SEs for all of them & do 'em up right I'll be happy. Series was good but I wouldn't be purchasing season sets of it.

I'm assuming the Aladdin sequels will have the now-norm cardboard-slipcases-that-open-like-a-book, as do the Lion King sequels. Although I'm not such a big fan of these 'cheapquels' (as they have become lovingly known as on this board), the Beauty and the Beast sequels will be the only set to not have them?

I think Disney can push a bigger marketing campaign with these sequels than with the last 2 Platinum Editions' sequels. Therefore, I think that the book-cover slip-covers are fairly likely. :)
