Disneyland/Walt Disney Presents/Wonderful World Of Color/Wonderful World Of Disney, etc. - Complete seasons sets for the entire series, please. Ran continuously from 1954-83, under various names, but only a small fraction of episodes (or partial episodes) have surfaced on DVD.
Skippy, the Bush Kangaroo - This charming Aussie import from the 60's ran on the late night Animal Planet block that competed with Vault Disney in the late 90's/early 2000's. (this block of programming also included eps of Lassie, Flipper, and Gentle Ben, all the classic versions, not remakes). I completely fell in love with this series and would LOVE to have it, in it's entirety on DVD.
Lassie - Ran for approx 20 or so seasons, from the 50's into the 70's - yet the only record of it's existance on DVD is one compilation of episodes. This deserves the complete season/series treatment. I would buy the whole thing.
Flipper (original 60's version) - Season 1 finally surfaced on DVD, the only season set available as a mainstream US release for any of my Top 10 all time series. Hopefully the rest of the series will surface.
Gentle Ben - like Flipper, this was produced by Ivan Tors in the 60's, featuring a bear instead of a dolphin.
The Life and Times Of Grizzly Adams - a 70's childhood favorite, YET ANOTHER all time favorite tv series with no DVD representation. Not even the Sun Pictures feature film which led to the series has been released on DVD.
Zorro - Yes, I know it's available through a movie club, but how about a mainstream release?
Mickey Mouse Club - original series. I mainly want this for the serials. It represents 1/3 of Walt's classic series, the other 2 of course being the anthology series and Zorro.
Just a few years ago, (late 90's) nearly all of this was available every late night on US TV, and I wore out 2 VCRs taping as much of it as I could during that time frame (Disney anthology, Zorro, and Mickey Mouse Club on Vault Disney; Lassie, Skippy, Flipper, and Gentle Ben on Animal Planet).
Then, both networks cut their overnight block around the same time to repeat their "normal" programing for the umteenth time.
Obviously, my taste in movies, tv, and music is largely skewed to older "catalog" titles, (mainly focused on heartwarming shows featuring animals) most of which was released before I was even born. I guess I enjoy the more "gentle" nature of a lot of older stuff - less "in you face", ironic, sarcastic, "hip", or postmodern as current tv series.
I detest "reality" tv, am not big on sitcoms, and the few "scripted" dramas that exists seem to all be about cops, lawyers, or doctors (none of which interest me) and tend to be too violent or explicit for my tastes.
If the media companies see fit to ever release on DVD the complete series mentioned above, to paraphrase another member, "I'm buying!"
But until such a day may come, I have little to no interest in the vast majority of "TV series on DVD" currently on the market. (except for some of the classic animated stuff that has come out).
And I ADORE the classic Rankin/Bass holiday specials. Most (but not all) of those are thankfully available.
