Does anyone seen this film called "Grand Canyon"? It was based on Peter Grofe's immortal masterpiece "Grand Canyon Suite". That film was breathtaking, Doinkblink on YouTube has that film in 4 parts, and it's in a full screen format. The film was also available in a widescreen format.
This film was released with "Sleeping Beauty" in 1959, but it won an Oscar for the best short film. I found this LP somewhere in my collection which was conducted by Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra, the same orchestra was done in "Fantasia" when Leopold Strokowski was conducting prior to Eugene Ormandy. It was released around 1970 on the Columbia Masterworks label as part of a series of album under the "Fabulous Philadelphia Sound Series".
This is a great album that matches the film itself, and this film is also included in the upcoming 2-disc Platinum Edition DVD of "Sleeping Beauty" which will be coming out October 7th. It was first released as a "Special Edition" DVD in 2003, but I'm so glad to see this film back for its Platinum Edition DVD. Here it is in 5 parts.

And speaking of this LP, here is the film which will be on the upcoming "Sleeping Beauty" Platinum Edition DVD, it was originally shown in 2003 in the "Special Edition" DVD. Part one starts off with the classic Disney Channel ID from 1983 where it goes into the film. Enjoy!

Re: Disney's "Grand Canyon"
I have the Special Edition of "Sleeping Beauty" as it was released in 2002 in Germany. At that moment, it was the only special edition of the movie available (shortly after a special edition was released in France and later in the UK). The movie "Grand Canyon" is also present on these releases in its original widescreen (CinemaScope) format. I do not know for sure though if the movie is presented anamorphic (still with [smaller] black bars) or in a 4:3 letterbox format.musicradio77 wrote:Does anyone seen this film called "Grand Canyon"? The movie is quite beautiful and I did recognize some parts of it from my own visits to the Grand Canyon in 1999 and 2006.

I'm so glad you'll like the film, but I hope this film will also be rerelease on a 2-disc Platinum Edition DVD of "Sleeping Beauty" which will be coming out October 7th along with the "Grand Canyon" movie.
As I said at the top, I do have the LP, but it was not a Disney album, but it was Disney related album with the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Eugene Ormandy. That was the same orchestra that Leopold Strokowski first conducted in the movie "Fantasia" prior to Eugene took over and went on to release a lot of classical albums under its Columbia Masterworks label, a classical label made by Columbia Records where it also produced a lot of Broadway show material for the label.
