Wow! Disney must really be worried!

Post by MrIncredible »

Okay, earlier this week there was an article (I forgot where it was, but I'll post a link once I find it) that Disney is sorta panicking and planning for the worst with the Narnia series. Now, something just happened to show that they might be going a bit overboard. The film opens in just under two months, like 7 weeks away and a number of my local theatres have already put tickets up for sale. This is mindblowing cause I remember they didn't even do advance tix for Star Wars until like the Friday before the Thursday release. I know for a fact that Indiana Jones (which I know will be like 5 times bigger) wouldn't go on sale until late April at the very earliest, if they do advance tickets at all. So, either Disney's worried and they want to see now how the film will do, or someone at Cineplex is jumping the gun.

Note: I have not bought tickets yet, since I find it way too early and also, I'm waiting for tickets for the digital version (the local theatre I'm going to just went digital last week) they usually make a note of it in the showtimes, and this one doesn't.

Indiana Jones has put a real spanner in the works, plus the sudden diversion of major attention towards the John Carter of Mars series, and it looks like Narnia is facing early cancellation.

Where on earth is the logic in this? The first movie did very, very well. Do you think they would cancel a series of movies based on pre-sales?

I am sure they will wait until several weeks of receipts are in before making a decision on a third instalment.

i think is really dumb to deem this as them been worried just because they're allowing presell.... perhaps they just want fans of the film to be guaranteed a seat on opening night. or like you said it's probably a theater offer either way i wouldnt alarm....

ok, i'm a HUGE narnia fan, but i have not bought my tickets yet; how do i know something is not gonna come up on opening weekend??? No one i know buys their tickets in advance, especially two months in advance. If they really are freaking out about this because they are thinking on the huge pre-sales on gigantic franchises like Hannah Montana, Lord of The Rings, and Star Wars, and they've seen this happen before though. But i still think its stupid to ever cancel or shorten a release based on this, people usually buy their tickets right at the time they plan on watching the movie; may be if we saw some statistics on this issue, we would know how much presales matter.

Hmm.....this sounds like someone is just trying to get a rumor out there. Iv never heard of such a thing! Narnia will be released and will do very well in theaters. Iv read a couple of magazines who are saying it will be one of the highlights of the sprinr and summer box office! The third Narnia film is already in the works so you can pretty much feel safe the series will be continued at least that far.

I read an article about this on Jim Hill Media. I think Disney is insane to consider abandoning the Narnia movies. Why didn't they move the Narnia start date back to around Christmas time? - it makes much more sense. I don't think it should be slotted to compete with Indy, at any rate.
The Narnia series is much more widely known than John Carter of Mars, and the first movie did so well. The previews for the second one look awesome. I hope someone is just trying to spread rumors.
