About The Jungle Book. I guess, for me, it's just that it's billed as a great classic...but I didn't click with it as much as other Disney films from around that time (like 101 Dalmations or The Sword in the Stone). But I haven't seen it in several years, so I probably need to see it again (whenever it becomes available)...and maybe I'll appreciate it a good deal more.

I hate 101 Dalmatians, it is as bad as Beauty and the Beast.

Jungle Book is an excellent movie. Colorful chacters, great music including "The Bare Neccisities", " I wanna Be Like You", "Thats what Friends are For", etc.. And the funny scene where King Louie monkies out and challenges the freaky white haired monkey...its' a pure laugh. Its' a fun movie. In my opinion it hasent got any publicity.

I have to say I like them both. :)

Beauty and the Beast, well, I think is a great romance and musical.

101 Dalmatians is fun, I think. I like the setting, too, and all the Dalmatians. Funny thing, because I like cats more than dogs, but like 101 Dalmatians more than The Aristocats. And both movies are...really kind of similar, at least in general plot. In Europe. Pets go missing/kidnapped, et cetera. I do have the score for 101 Dalmatians, which I picked up with a bookstore giftcard after Christmas...and I like the music in a lot of those 60's-era films. Especially Sword in the Stone, but I don't think there's a soundtrack for that one.

Yeah, it IS underrated. It's been a while since I've seen that one, too, but it was so well-done. Very fresh and creative, and with a great cast of characters (the ladybug, centipede, and the spider, and the grasshopper, and James, and there was a worm, too, I think) and situations (how the birds carried the peach with the strings; I think I'm remembering right). A very magical movie. I want to see it again now!

The Aristocats is so underrated, people should try to enjoy the film instead of judging the animation, Scales and Arppeggios was my favorite song in the film.

Ducktales: the movie? Is that that (woah, creepy) one where they found a little genie and they tried to hide him? OH GAWD!! I LOVE AND MISS THAT ONE!! It was one of my fav movies! :) I watched it alot! But sadly, we were robbed and the little butt-munch who robbed us stole that one.
:( I miss it... But yes, it is underrated. And no, I don't know the release date. Sorry, KAI. :(

Overrated and underrated movies are, of course, a simple matter of opinion.

So in mine....

Obviously, I think The Black Cauldron is a much underrated film. It came at a "black" moment for Disney, and the financial disappointment of the film seems to have overshadowed the fact that it is actually an OK film. Sure, it is by no means perfect, but it is not the crap that people make it out to be. Oliver & Co is overlooked for similar reasons. I personally count that as one of my faves, along with the VERY underrated Great Mouse Detective, which deserves to sit proudly alongside the "Great" films from The Little Mermaid on. If things were different, maybe we would be speaking about GMD in the same terms as Mermaid, The Lion King, Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast. How can a movie with Vincent Price on vocals not be sitting proudly in the Plantinum Collection?? :P

I also think that The Emperor's New Groove, which has received quite a bashing of late on this board, is not the bad film people make it out to be. The humour is sufficiently off the wall, and it was a wacky style of animation we don't see much (although it is similar in some respects to the equally maligned Hercules) .Finally, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh is the "ship that launched a thousand DTVs" as it were, but it never really gets the credit as a feature masterpiece that it deserves. Many consider it a lesser film because it is essentially 3 shorts strung together, but some of the best films in history are anthology movies (Fantasia, for example).

Look for my DIScussion shortly, as I am currently writing one.

As for overrated, I was hestitant to go into this because I think it always treads on some toes. However, The Jungle Book is considered a favourite by many, and I could never begrudged them that. However, it is MY least favourite of the films, as there is something that doesn't quite click with me on it.

Don't hit me

Underrated:

Treasure Planet
The shorts from the 1940s
Return to Oz
Sleeping Beauty

Overrated:
Beauty and the Beast (no, this isn't a typo--even though this is one of my favorite movies of all time, it is overrated to some degree, especially on the animation)
The Lion King
Mulan (ugh....don't get me started. There aren't enough words to describe my animosity to this movie.)
Toy Story (I thought it was a decent movie, but nothing special)
