Disney to offer classic shows online

Post by Mouseketodd »

During the annual shareholders meeting this week, Robert Iger stated that Disney will offer classic shows online in the future. Articles (See links below.) state that shows will be available either for a fee or for free through ad-supported means -- they haven't determined the model yet. One of these articles below mentions the shows will be available on iTunes.

This is GREAT NEWS to me! I'm a fan of classic Disney live-action and animated fare, and would like very much to have more than what's been released on DVD, like seasons of the original Mickey Mouse Club, Disney serials, etc. And I'm not a baby boomer who longs for childhood shows from the '50s -- I was born in 1968.

I'd certainly buy classic Disney from iTunes -- I've already got a number of the cartoon shorts sold there. Even though I own all of this content with the Walt Disney Treasures, I still enjoy carrying Disney cartoons on my iPod to watch whenever I want!

Although given the current mentality that anything made more than five years ago is old, "classic shows" probably refers to Lizzie McGuire Season 1.

I too, am wondering how they're defining "Classic". I'm pretty much cool with anything from "Walt Disney Presents" Era-One Saturday Morning.

Why are you looking at me like that? Hercules was really awesome, no seriously it was. Guys? Guys?...;)

However, if they actually mean "Classic" I'm crossing my fingers for Season 2 of Zorro, and, maybe even the hour-length episodes from Walt Disney Presents.

If these "classic" programs are made available online through sites such as Itunes, does this mean that they will only be viewable on my computer? I sure would appreciate having them available, but I'd like the convenience and comfort of being able to watch them on my television from my comfy couch, or wherever I may want to play a dvd.

I wish they would have a separate site for Classic Walt Disney material, as disney.com already has too much stuff and is hard to load and naviagte past all the activities and ads.
