Is Old key west as far as it looks on the map?
Does it take forever to get to Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom?
Is the Old Key west resort really too far?

No, it's not that far. It's where my family stays every time they go. It is closest to Downtown Disney than anything else, which is a 10 minute drive from the Magic Kingdom. It is closest to Epcot and Hollywood Studios and farthest from Animal Kingdom. Will you be renting a car while you are there? The reason I ask is because if you are using Disney's free bus service, then you could be looking at a 45 minute ride to one of the parks. Old Key West has several bus stops (I believe 6) throughout the resort and depending on if you are the first to get on, it can take almost 15 minutes just to leave the resort, and then buses travel slower than cars, so the drive itself can be more like 15 minutes to the Magic Kingdom, verses 10 driving. With the wait for a bus (there is no set time schedule, they claim they come every 20 minutes, but that doesn't always hold true), you are looking at 45 minutes to an hour in travel time from the resort to a park.
This downside to Disney transportation is not exclusive to Old Key West. You will encounter this at any of the resorts, as Disney World is so huge that no matter where you stay, you are going to be far away from something. If you were only going for Magic Kingdom and Epcot, I would reccomend staying at one of the Magic Kingdom resorts (Contemporary, Polynesian and Grand Floriddean) since they are on the monorail line that takes you to those two parks. From Epcot, you can catch a 30 minute boat to the Hollywood Studios, but from all resorts, the only way to get to Animal Kingdom is by bus or car.
